This will sound a silly question but have you tried changing the settings on the control panel to Black and White? The button should be on the lower left side of the main control panel. I had that problem and it was that the paper was damp. It didn't feel damp, but keeping the paper in a hot airing cupboard fixed the issue. If that doesn't fix it, it may be a timing issue that the fusing unit isn't coming on early enough. There must be a switch.

Yes, if you remove the toner cartridge and tap it, you can get the toner to settle and get some extra copies.

The stuck spring will have to be freed up or replaced before the replacement cartridge will seat correctly.

That is an imaging subsystem fault.
You can try turning the machine off, disconnceting and reconnecting the document feeder and scanner cables, then reconnect them to be sure they are properly seated.
Other than that, it would really need a service call.
