What you have described is the cause of hardware failure internally due to over heating.

There are 2 chips inside the PS3 one is the GPU (graphics processor unit) and the other is a CPU (brain) They are both soldered on to the motherboard. as these chips give off a lot of heat it can crack the solder causing he chips to lose connection with the motherboard. This can cause all sorts of problems like the YLOD, THE 3 BEEPS, THE RED LIGHT ERROR.

so this is my advice.
1. if your in warranty you should really call sony as they can repair or even replace the PS3 and this is for free.
2. If your out of warranty or don't have the $150 repair costs then I would use a PS3 repair guide ( like I did to fix the YLOD). Its easier than it sounds and can be done at home.

It sounds like your PS3 overheated and is now shorting out. Try removing the power from it completely, and let it sit for about 4 minutes. Plug it back in. This is a problem occurring in all the play station 3 consoles....... this is mainly because of the poor quality of the disc,.....as a result it leads to the damage of ur PS3 lens.use good original discs........the heating effect is due to the long usage of pirated discs ...

Try to reset the SIXAXIS it is a small button located at the top of the back of the control.
If that fails, try this. Plug the mini-USB port end of the USB cable into the PlayStation 3 controller while connecting the standard USB port end of the cable to your PC.
Wait for Windows to report that it has "Detected New Hardware" and let Windows go through its full scan. When Windows says that it could not recognize the hardware, the scan is complete Download the appropriate drivers for your controller, either SIX AXIS or DUAL SHOCK 3 (it is written on the top of the controller).
These drivers can be found on several websites by doing a Google search for "PS3 Controller PC Drivers Unzip the driver files from the zipped folder to someplace easily accessible on the hard drive (such as your desktop).
Double-click the Setup icon and follow the directions given on-screen to install the SIX AXIS drivers Unhook the controller and reset your computer to complete the installation process.

You either have a dirty laser or faulty laser. Try cleaning laser with qtips and alchol.

1. Ps3 does not play ps2 console games. the problem you have is the blue ray player has failed.
unfortunatly it cannot be fized, you will need to take the console to have the blue ray reader replaced.

Ok try this, use a hairdryer. Blow into the back off the ps3 for 5-8 mins. Then let cool down for 20 mins.
Your ps3 will be up and running in no time.

If you have tried several disks and they will not read this means that ether the laser is dirty or there is something wrong with it. If you are still in warranty with Sony I would contact them on getting your PS3 drive repaired.

If you are not in warranty then I would recommend that you take the system to your local repair shop to have them clean or replace the drive as needed. Note if have worked on computers before then you should be able to try to clean the laser your self. If you would like the process for this let me know. As for replacing the laser if you do try it your self you have to make sure that you get the right one because not all PS3s used the same Blu-ray laser.

its call YLOD...just happen to me b4...u need to heat the 2 cpu n gpu with heat gun about 5mins with 400-500 degree..this procedure is to resolder the gpu/cpu.tQ

2 days ago i got the yellow light of death when the 2.50 update came out rendering my ps3 to a 500 dollar paperweight.
I contacted sony about my problem and my console is under warrenty so it would be fixed for free so it didn't bother me to awful bad
the are sending me a box right now but i have fixed the yellow lights on my ps3 myself and it works now without a hitch
What i did is i took my 120 gb hard drive out of my ps3, Slaved it to my cpu tower and did a full format of that drive
then i took my hard drive and put it back in my ps3 and it ask me for the system software 2.50 disk so i downloaded the 2.50 update off of the ps3 website installed it and boom my ps3 work like new
this worked for me so far and have been playing my console for 6 hours now with out a hitch
maybe this will work for some of u aswell

check your settings on output and make sure its set up for the tv you are using it can take a couple of attempt especially if using a hdmi lead
