I have MasterCook 9 but unable to open recipes
being the same program it should be able to open them ...but sometimes this is not a rule ...(same thing with word files from 2003 in 2007 program ) try to associate the files with the new program and see if it works and open them ..for example ..right click on one of the files and choose properties...after that click change and from the list pick the new program ...If it isnt in the list ..click browse and go to drive C /program files..choose the new program folder and inside click on the execution ...after you make this choice ..click apply ..and ok ..
If the files are visible in this new version it will open them and you will be able to read them ..if they are incompatible it will tell you so ..
In this case the only way to do it is to install the old version in parallel. To avoid conflict ..install the old version in a separate director folder..in another partition ...Just choose to change the director when you install ..and make a folder in the other partition ..name it after the program ..and choose it to install the program into ..when you are done ..make the same thing I already told you to do with this one ...click right on a file ..and properties than change and browse for the old version ..and choose its execution to open the old files..
This way they will work in parallel

Mastercook 9.0 shuts down when
It's due to a new security patch that Microsoft did. Go to the ValueSoft website for the patch:
http://www.valusoftsupport.com/KBArticle.asp?kbid=6196
You have to download the patch, unzip it into the MasterCook 'program' folder, then launch MasterCook. If you put the patch into the wrong spot (I initially put it just into the MasterCook folder_ it doesn't work, but you can drag and drop it into the right spot.

They have a patch to fix it, thankfully. I just spent about a half an hour with my brain exploding because I was having the same problem you're having! You have to download the patch, unzip it into the 'program' folder of the MasterCook folder, then launch MasterCook. If you don't get the patch unzipped into the right place, it doesn't work. Thankfully, if you put it in the wrong spot (as I did) you can just drag and drop it into the 'program' folder.

When using Mastercook Deluxe 9.0,
If you believe it is related to that security update your best bet is to try and roll back to an earlier time - before you applied that update. To do that you will want to go back to a previous restore point on your computer, hopefully they are enabled. They are enabled by default on almost all computers though..
To find out if you can do this I will need to know, what version of Windows are you running? Windows XP, Vista, 7...?
Please let me know and I can walk you through removing that security update or just restoring to a previous date so we can get it working again.
Just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you...

The program crashes constantly. Error
This is due to some corruption in the program files, it's pretty common. Have you attempted to uninstall the program and reinstall it? Usually this will clear up these kind of errors. To uninstall just go to the CONTROL PANEL on your computer, then ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS or Uninstall a Program depending on what version of Windows you are running. Then find this program on the list and highlight it, then click remove or uninstall. Then load the CD again for the program and install it like it was the first time... Or if you downloaded the program re-download and re-install it.
Let me know if you have already tried this or need further instructions.
Thanks so much, just reply here and I will be right back to you.

Are you installing as administrator?
you could try:
Start->run
and type in the following line
regsvr32 "C:Program Files (x86)MasterCook 9ProgramMCWrap.dll"
or wherever the .dll path was
then try reinsalling.
When I installed it, I right clicked on the install file, and clicked RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

MasterCook 9.0 Printing/Publishing extra letters on print.
I think I have a solution for this. When you are all ready to print your cookbook go back and change the way you want it divided (instead of alphabetical or by title) to a field that you did not use. I didn't put an author on my recipes so I picked author and it comes back and says there is not author but ignor that and start printing. The A, B, C are no longer there. I hope this works for you.
