Reformat the drive

The flash drive may need to be REFORMATTED. In some cases, the flash drive is pulled out from the USB port incorrectly. That can lead to a damaged Flash Drive. Always remove Flash Drives by using the EJECT method. To format the USB Flash drive, go to the File Explorer (the bottom row of Icons on the computer screen showing a manila folder inside a holder) and locate the USB drive by letter, such as drive B,C,D, etc. One of these letters or higher. Tap the corresponding to the USB drive and an option box comes up. Select "Format" (Quick is ok). Once formatted, the drive is ready to accept data once again. If it cannot be formatted, then the USB DRIVE may have sustained damage to the circuit and no longer can be of service.

Make sure nobody put hidden files on the Flash, Copy the files off, then reformat the flash in NTFS unless you have an old computer. FAT32 will work, the limit is 4GB for a single file and 2TB for the whole drive. If it was an SD or variation I would have kept with this for compatibility with cameras ect. NTFS for a USB has a couple features that make it slightly more reliable and faster for a situation where you have many small files.Below is a link to a simple flash formatting tool. You have to format the drive to the correct type before transferring your music onto it. Not sure whether you're using windows or Mac. In windows go into file explorer, right click the usb drive and select format. This will show you a section of formats including FAT32.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

The card has a sliding switch on it. Slide to the opposite position and you should be OK.

You don't really close it, you just tell the computer to turn it off so you can safely remove it, thats what the "Safely remove drive" option on windows does. Go to it and select the drive you want to remove, it will do the rest.

If it overheats, it's a defective card.

Flash-memory cards have a finite "life-time". After that time, you can read from from memory, but you cannot write new files, nor update existing files. Copy all the files from it onto your computer, and then discard it, and purchase a new memory-card.

Is there more information you can provide? Examples, once I click the memory stick in, nothing happens on the screen with windows version? What size is the memory stick? Is it new from the store? What appears on the screen? If you open 'my computer' do you see it as a choice? If so, what happens when you click on it? Does it recognize it but not load the data off the stick?

Typically USB cards and flash drives arrive with default formats. The user should not have to format them before use. However like any storage format it can become corrupt. Be it virus or read write fault. Also different formats provide better storage space but limit access to some devices/programs. Hope this helps.
