Don't get ABC or NBC local channels anymore

ATSC tuners ("D/A converters") pick up signals off the air just like old school television. It sounds like you are just not getting a signal of sufficient strength. A weak analog signal looks like a "snowy" picture, which most of us are used to. But, the new digital channels quickly go from a perfect picture to none at all. It's basically all-or-nothing.

Try attaching an antenna to your converter. I know you can buy a new antenna from your local big box electronics store which is labeled "Terrestrial HDTV" or something, but that really doesn't mean anything. You can use any old TV antenna. Even a quality FM antenna (with an F-Pin coax connection) may work just fine.

When setting up the antenna, keep in mind that different channels are transmitted from different towers, in different locations with different strengths. Move the antenna placement and position around (just like grandpa had to do). You may have to make a compromise to get the best signal for your favorite channels.

Sound problems with recording to vcr using converter box

If your TV has no scart connection, no HDMI connection, then to be honest I would get a new set. There are plenty of good second hand models around, which will be better than your old set and come with a digital tuner built in. As for the VCR, that should have a scart socket and so should the converter box. Once connected via the scart socket you should be be able to record the shows easily. If the converter box comes with a volume control, you might need to set that up to get it right. If the VCR has two scart sockets use the second one to connect the box. Use the first to connect to the TV for viewing your recordings only. If it has only one scart, then look around on Amazon for one of these scart switching boxers. scart box-2ezdezzc42qgaoqqik1m5pt1-2-0.jpg

Connect tv vcr and dvd player to digital converter box

Yes you can first connect the converter box to the antenna first. Next hook the tv out on converter box to vcr in on vcr. Next hook the vcr out to the tv in and watch vcr and converter box on channel 3 sometimes channel 4.on the actual tv and of course change channels with converter box remote. For dvd player hook it straight to tv with red, white, and yellow cables that come with your dvd player. Then to watch dvd player if it's hooked up that way you have to put your tv on a input like video 1 or input 1. This can be done by using the tv remote and looking for a button that says tv/video or input or source button. This is some common names for that button on tv remotes. My tv won't take commands from my remote, it will shut down, but not restart

If you are using a none original remote then not all remote codes will work all the functions. Some codes are designed for different models. So you might have to try several codes before all functions will work. Even then some might still be missing. If you are using a new genuine remote and it's still playing up. Then either two possibilities can occur. The set has been switched to work a different remote. Or there's a fault in the set that has either effected the remote functions or has caused the functions to cease to operate, even though the remote is sending out the correct signal and the set has received it.

Hearing my television through my home theater system

Without knowing anything about your TV receiver all I can assume is that the TV has a least an RCA analog audio OUT. Run that to any available analog input on the HTS. make sure the TV's audio controls (hidden in a menu somewhere) is set to Fixed so the TV volume won't affect the HTS volume. Then you can turn the TV speakers off and still listen through the HTS.

You'll only get stereo this way. Ideally, you would have a digital audio source for the TV audio signal.
