GE Profile Spacemaker Over-the-Range Microwave - Page 3 Questions & Answers
My GE microwave JVM1740DM1WW no
there is no easy fix to this units current problem it will need to be looked at by a service tech as the fault is an internal circuit shortout and needs to have the faulty circuit found and then replaced using expensive testing units
sorry

How do you replace a GE Spacemaker Oven Profile JVM1490WD003 handle ?
usually you need to demount the front panel
then remove its face unit as it will have a back guard unit
so they split apart with screws usually counter sunk machine screws
then the front unit section will have the handle attached
de mount it and replace and back step
i find if i place all the screws like a map of where they came from
then when placing a screw in metal or plastic
turn the screw anti clockwise {to the left}
till it clicks down and drops a bit
you get a feel for it so practice
once you do this you can almost guarantee your on the correct threads when you wind it clockwise {to t he right} to secure
esp important with plastic
if you drop in the wrong thread you end up with a unit thats plastics holes
no longer hold the screws turn turn isnt good
when you can use this trick
Microwave not heating
Hi Edward
I should mention (although it's pretty obvious) that Microwave Energy is DANGEROUS.
So it's better not to fiddle with the internals.
A quick test can be done to check for electromagnetic energy (in the 2.45Ghz range) inside the oven. Put a glass of water in the Microwave Oven and place 2 strips of tinfoil across the top of the open glass above the water. Put the strips close together but not quite touching then close the door.
Start the microwave & look through the glass window. Listen & Watch for sparks between the tinfoil pieces. If there are sparks then your Microwave Oven is generating or transmitting electromagnetic energy from the magnetron tube unit.
If it's working Don't leave it sparking too long. The tinfoil can get hot enough to burn. The glass of water is to absorb any microwave energy.
There is an interlock switch on the door for safety to protect you from microwaves leaking out of the door cracks. This switch fails to function sometimes. But normally the oven won't even try to power on or spin the turntable (or Fan) if this interlock fails.
If there are no sparks then your Magnetron is shot. Its usually not worth fixing them unless you know of a specialist technician who is qualified and competent with microwave equipment.
Hope This Helps

What worked in my case was resetting the processor. To do that, i opened the microwave's panels and disconnected all the parts that were connected. I put them all back in after a minute or so, started it back up and it worked. However, this isn't a permanent fix. The fix will work temporarily and the process will have to be repeated.
