Your top threading is not right, check to make sure that your thread hasn't jumped out of a guide. Totally rethead with the presser foot up, now pull thread, it should move smoothly, next put the presser foot down, the thread should barely move. This will seat your thread in the tension discs. If, that does not work, insert a new needle.

Download the user's manual from the Singer site, www.singerco.com. It is a free download. Look on page 34, and it will show you how to remove the plate and clean underneath. There are two levers that must be set to release it.

From what I gather on other sites, your thread has to be threaded under tension.... You have to make sure you hear a click when your bringing your thread down to the bottom of the "arm". Also, I thought the bobbin case was rather loosely held in its place, I adjusted this by unscrewing the black plate and moving it over just a smidge. The bobbin is supposed to have some wiggle room, but it kept popping up and making the tiny adjustment seems to have done the trick....for now...

I was just looking at page 27 of your manual, and was wondering if one of your pins is broken off and that is why it won't lock in place. Take a look at it and your manual and see if that is the problem. Then call Singer at 1-800-4singer and see if they will send you another one. If, it is the first time you tried to use it, I am sure that they will help you for free. It probably was damaged when you got it.

It is possible that your timing is off so that the machine is only picking up the thread on the one side and not the other. It may need to be adjusted but there are at least 7 different adjustments that it could be. If you are not very familiar with adjusting your machine I would suggest bringing it in to have it professionally timed otherwise the people at the link I attached may be able to help. When is that happening? Are you unable to bring the bobbin thread up at all so that you can begin stitching, or are you skipping stitches?

The reverse button may have loosened check for looseness and tighten if possible
