Is the Scanner turned on and plugged into the PC.
Ensure it is on and launch the software again. If there is still an issue, re install the software using the latest from the Epson support site.
At the bottom of the Epson Scan software is a 'Configuration' button, click it and a new window opens.
It defaults to the Preview tab, and at the top it asks the Preview Window size. On the right is a drop down list - Large, Medium, Small. Select your choice and click OK. Done.
it doesnt sound like a terminal issue it sounds like a driver issue i would re install the drivers and software (if yuou lost the disk you can download it from epson) also keep your scanner unplugged for about 10 minutes to reset it
sounds like an internal part is heating up and shorting out- I know this will sound crazy, but put scanner in fridge or outside if you have cold nights, and see if it stays running longer before quitting.
I have had the sam problem on 2 of the same scanners.
Open the scanner cover and slide the transparency unit transportation lock to the unlocked position. Then close the scanner cover.Power it on and there you go.Somehow this little switch can get moved and there is the grinding noise and not working.
