Canon DR-5010C Scanner Questions & Answers
"I get an error "Error in the back shading motor (4431) and the scanner stops. How can I fix it?
This error can be caused by a mechanical problem during the return of the shade. After many attempts, problem was fixed cutting both springs from pressure roll behind reading unit. The amount of spring removed changed from machine to machine. I cut 1 quarter of turn from spring and test the scanner. Procedure was repeated until problem was fixed. In worst scenario 2 turns were cutted. Be aware that cutting these springs will affect the scanned image quality.
Canon DR-5010C Scanner How to get rid of the 4 zero's at the end of the naming convention?
The 4 zeroes at the end are added on purpose. If you are scanning a set of documents, say 11 pages, to maintain the sequence the scanner scans them as abcd0001, abcd0002 till abcd 0011. Without 4 zeroes, the first file will be abcd1, abcd2....abcd10, abcd11. Now in the Computer the sequence will be abcd1, abcd10, abcd11, abcd2 till abcd9, altering the sequence. If you are scanning into PDF, the scanned images will be added automatically maintaining sequence.

How to have white background on small documents
All areas outside of the document will be black only. I don't know how you were getting white background.
If you want white background around your scanned image, a) stick the check (in this example) onto a white paper and scan the whole sheet. Ensure double detection is off. b) You can also do this in software, by cropping a larger area outside the scanned image.
There are many options to view the scanned image like Actual size or Fit or Fit vertically or Fit width. The same image will appear different in each case.

Blurry scans
Try cleaning the reading module with Isopropyl alcohol. Dont use any solvent. Gently press the scanning module to see if there is enough spring action.

Canon DR-5010C when settings are changed to Auto
If you are using CapturePerfect 3, select page size as Auto-detection, detect size by Image width, Deskew by roller & Image, then you will get images exactly as that of the scanned image.
If you ae using CP2, then you can select Auto-detection AND page detection. The problem with CP2 is if the image is less than that of the guide-plate, you will get black background. You can clean this through software.
If you had select B&W scanning and chosen to save file in JPG format, the scanner will report error. JPG is only for Color/ Grey scale.
With CP2, I have observed that sometimes, the changes are not retained, unless you select 'default' first and alter the parameters. This is not found in CP3.
