I was able to resolve the dreaded 009-654 on my c1765nfw.

• Download/install the usb driver for the printer
• Connect the printer to a usb port on my computer
• Download the latest Dell printer firmware driver
• Re-power the printer on with a toner cartridge removed
• Run the Dell firmware upgrade program, it should recognize that the printer is connected and will load the firmware
• When the firmware installation is completed, restart the printer and everything should be working again.

This solution may work on all other Dell printers that experienced the same error.

Code: 6400

Zero cross signal error
While fuser heater ON/OFF control is
performed, the zero-cross signal is not
input within 3 s.

Causes:
- Defective the power source PWB
- Defective the engine/high voltage PWB.

Broken heater lamp error

The temperature won't rise by 1°C/33.8 °F during warming up and the heater is turned on for 5 seconds.

The temperature won't rise by 1°C/33.8 °F during printing and the heater is turned on for 5 seconds with the duty cycle more than 60%.

1. Defective fuser thermistor.

2. Broken thermal cutout or heater lamp.

3. Defective engine/high voltage PWB.

Turn power switch off, and remove power cord.

Detach YC7 connector on the engine/high voltage PWB.

Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2 of the detached connector.

Open (infinite)?

Yes Then - Replace the fuser thermistor.

No Then - Detach YC1 connector on the power source PWB.

- Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2 of the detached connector.

Open (infinite)?

Yes - Replace the thermal cutout or heater lamp.

No - Replace the engine/high voltage PWB.

Have you tried just setting it up as an HP? Kyocera machines emulate HP.

Remove and reinsert the two connectors of the fuser unit. If not, then remove and reinsert all the connectors from the engine pwb and the power pcb.

Check the lamp and the thermostat for continuity. Check the operation of the thermistor. If something defective replace. Most common is the thermostat. In addition, check the operation of the cooler fan on the machine's left. If it is not working then you have to fix or replace it. The most rare but existing failure is call service 6000 due to defective power supply. In this case the heat roller is stuck on press roller.

Shows as a fuser error (zero cross signal error)but we see this being the power supply and/or bad power to the unit. Check your power outlet (it should be on a separate or dedicated plug with no other devices). Remove and re-seat the drum unit and DV unit. Could be the fuser but if it comes back its the power supply
