As the machine is brand new I suggest you stop worrying and simply return it for refund or replacement. When you buy something you are making a contract with the supplier that in return for money he will provide you with goods of merchantable quality. An item that doesn't work out of the box as per instructions or as advertised and actually seems to be damaged is not of merchantable quality and therefore is a breach of contract.

If the rebooting does not do the trick, then the rep is right in telling you that unit is in need of repair. But at what price. Better check that out first since it might be cheaper to replace than repair.

It's more than likely that your internal power supply has failed, you would be wise to take it to a service center if it;s a high value printer, if it's not then buy a new printer.

one ink cartridge is out of ink but...

when we try to replace one of the color ink cartridges we get this error message:

ink cartridges cannot be recognized. make sure ink cartridges are installed correctly - how do I get the printer to recognize my full ink cartridge?

I was changing my cyan cartridge and got this error. I thought for sure it was that cartridge. Tried a few things including pulling them all out and putting them all back in. Didn't work.

Finally, I found a place in the software that showed the info on all the cartridges. Turned out the light cyan was not reading. Took it out and rubbed the contacts with a pencil eraser. Voila! Problem solved.

Maybe you should replace the ink cartridge.but first, make sure which ones that cause the problems.
