Brother 9840 Toner cartridge reset
The clear/back option is usually reserved for resetting drum page counts. Resetting toner page counts is usually achieved by a flag gear on the left hand side of the cartridge that rotates and tags a micro-switch arm inside the printer when the cartridge is first installed. If the micro switch doesn't register, the cartridge count is not reset although the flag gear has rotated and will not do so again unless manually reset.

Print unable 32 how to fix
I just had this problem on my 9840. Turned out it was the density sensor shutter solenoid sticking. Turn off the power and unplug the printer. Remove the drum unit then the Transfer belt unit. Turn the machine around. Remove Fuser unit (2 screws). Remove 2 plastic covers over High voltage (they slide to the left with catches on the right) The solenoid is on right. 1 screw holds it in, carefully lift it up as it has a spring on the plunger. Cover the black rubber bumper with scotch tape. Reinstall making sure the plunger fits into the slot and the spring is behind the slot. Re-install the covers on the high voltage. Reinstall the fuser and transfer belt, then drum unit. You may then go about your business again.
