Hello!Lamp or ballast(if lamp has been replaced) is bad. Explanation: green comes on: system works, waiting for light to shine into light engine: no light is coming out of lamp, system shuts down, then you see red! how to determine: pull the lamp out of the unit's compartment. Inspect lamp: bloated stem? shuttered? reflector is not shiny? Chuck it!Lamp looks good or just been replaced: try ballast. Close lamp compartment without lamp itself. Make sure, door is shut, as well. Turn unit on and listen close to lamp compartment: good ballast will make a buzzing noise, then stop. You've got "red'! No buzzing: ballast quit. Needs major repair! Lamp must be good, for sure, to get to the last part of diagnostics. Conclusion: more, than 2000 hours of usage: replace lamp first!Good luck,Alex.

Hello!Have you bought bare lamp? Probably, yes. And not from "Panasonic"? yes. The timer's reset procedure is different for every model of Panasonic, including TVs. when you buy lamp with housing from Panasonic, they will give you the directions, how to. If it's "aftermarket", nope! http://www.manualowl.com/m/Panasonic/PT-D5600U/Manual/52045that's where you will find the procedure. it's quite complicated, page 45.follow the directions.good luck,Alex.

Hello: in most cases, front and back sensors are identical. Might even be those little boards, as well. I've seen repeated problem with sensor board circuitry, not a IR sensor, itself. in my 2 cases, there was a faulty sms ceramic capacitor, twice at the same make and model of Phillips TVs. If you can handle safely open and close top part of projector's cabinet, you will see those 2 small pc boards, connected to control panel. To get a part#, go to "panasonic.com", then look for "support", then 'parts ordering". enter your model# and you'll find whole list of the parts for your set. You don't need any authorization to buy 2 little assemblies. Get 2! The other one will quit sooner or later! shouldn't cost too much, anyway.Good luck,Thanks,Alex.

Hello!Replace color wheel assembly! Motor's bearings are gone. It will work for a little while, then will cease and destroy DMD board(part of light engine). Before it ceases, you may notice gamma is getting weird. Sooner, the better! It might cost $200, but it's doable for a skilled technician, if you never pull precise mechanical watch apart and backwards, try to hire professional. It's very easy to brake fragile color wheel, plus there are wires to be re- installed gently and in order, along with rubber gaskets.good luck,Alex.

Hello!Replace the lamp assembly with OEM only! After you pull the old one and carefully install the new, you must reset your unit. The procedure should be supplied with your new lamp. Or, refer to owner's manual. Most likely, it will be inside of your new lap's box. Make sure, read it and keep in a safe place, after all. Next time you may buy "generic" lamp, but you will know how to reset. Good luck,Alex.

Hello!Looks, like one of your temperature sensors has been damaged. May be due to severe overheating by old lamp. Or: the lamp could be improperly installed. Heats up, then connections to ballast fail, lamp quit working. Next possible cause: did you clean air filter? Vacuumed or blow fans with compressed air? Another possibility: If there was not a significant dust accumulation inside of lamp compartment, the ballast board itself can be at fault. In any case, unit might behave the way it does now. Also: have you reset the lamp timer? In projectors, they won't just give you annoying message via "on screen display". It might think, that you never replaced the lamp, just took it out and put back in. You must reset the lamp timer first. The procedure could be in owner's manual or come with OEM replacement lamp. Generics or "bare" lamps might lack that note. Panasonic wants to stay in a business! Good luck with your project, thanks,Alex.

Hello!looks, like you having a problem with DMD module. It's the main part of light engine. That's where you want to look first. Quite possible, that DM could be at fault, as well. DMD is most expensive part, DM(digital module) is not that bad. That one deliver signal to DMD, light engine processor. due to high temperature inside of those little things, fauly surface mount electrolytic capacitors are to look for. It requires very high technician skills and couldn't be performed at home. I'd recommend to start looking for DM, first. E-bay, used parts distributors, etc. You could replace it with caution. Make sure not to break any ribbon cables or connectors, if you decide to do it yourself. Especially, when you pry covers to open, In many cases, ribbon or regular connector's cables(boards to control panel) could be very short. If you take top cabinet off rapidly, those could brake off. Anyway, I'd rather take it to reputable repair shop.Especially, with this kind of problem.Good luck with your project,Alex. c/o Alex's Television, Philadelphia PA.

Just recently paid $836.00 for projector repair. Unit would not power ON, power indicator flashing 3 times. They said they replaced the DMD board. We asked to see the replaced part but they did not
If unit is working now, the repair is valid. Parts, like DMD are quite expensive and require core to return. Example: Main Board for Panasonic plasma TV cost $525+. When repair shop return a dud(core), they get $250 credit. Even some used parts, like light engine, require dud return(if you wish, of course) to get $50 back. So: now you know how it works. I won't blame them for immediate dud return, due to high cost of the part(s).Especially for Panasonic. For the boards they require prior authorization. I've got into that mess couple times. Hope, that repair worked out well for you. If not, I might give you a second opinion, but I need to see and open your projector. It's up to you.Sincerely,Alex. the problem is a known "bug" by the manufacture, which is due to low temperature issue that's detected by the processor of the projector. it will require a firmware upgrade. i'd recommend getting in contact w/ their tech support.

It is likely to be a combination of things. 1) The lamp is getting weak and should be replaced. 2) The optical pathway needs to be cleaned.
Cleaning the pathway should be done by a professional as any slight movement will cause the projector to become misaligned. Depending upon the environment where this is used, this time period is within the norms for both lamp life and cleaning.

Total Expected life (in hours) of a Panasonic DLP Projector
The projector lifetime has a lot to do with maintenance and environment. Over time, the LCD panels will start to deteriorate. I worked for a rental company where these units were in constant use. After 5 years, they were still going strong. Realize though, that these were highly maintained: constant cleaning via compressed nitrogen to remove dust, lens cleaning and filter changing on a regular basis. Checking for proper fan function and complete disassembly and checking for connections etc.
A word of caution: DO NOT work with the LCD block unless you have access to a clean area and have training. The tolerances here are very small. Slight changes can severely alter the picture quality and all adjustments should be left to a professional.
Hope this helps,
Dan

Our projector was working last
Hi,
First check that the AC adapter is connected to both the projector and a working power outlet. Make both connections secure. You may need to plug a separate device into the outlet to check if it is receiving power.
Next, check that the "Main Power" switch is in the "On" position. The projector has two power switches that must be turned on for the device to work. The "Main Power" switch must be turned on before the "Power" button is pressed.
Check that the projector cover is in place and secure. All parts of the cover need to be secure. Press down on the cover until it clicks.
Finally, check the temperature indicator light . If it is blinking then the temperature inside or outside of the projector is higher than normal and needs to be reduced to prevent damage to the machine.
When the light comes on, first check the vents on the projector for obstructions. Move anything blocking the air vents or clean them if needed.
Next, check the temperature of the room. If the room temperature is abnormally high, above 104 degrees, reduce the temperature of the room or move the projector to a cooler location.
Finally, check if the air filter is clogged with dirt and debris and clean it if needed. To clean the filter, push up on the bottom of filter and pull it out of the projector. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt and debris and reinsert the filter.
After cleaning start your projector ,it will work fine .
Hope this helps .

After a few min it shuts down
There may be an overheated or bad capacitor in the unit. You can test with an ohmmeter to determine if there is a bad one. Do check ballast that lamp connects to for power with voltmeter as well.
