When I put a dvd

Hello there!
You should try a different player. I personally use Media Player Classic http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
VLC is also a very good choice: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
I hope this helps! Thumbs up if it does!

Why laptop didn't boot but showed only colored lines?

The most common problem with this is an easy fix. You should try updated your video card drivers. If you can't find them on the manufacturers website, the easier route is to download slim drivers. It should get it for you with no problem. Although, after you may want to turn off the service starting up at boot. If this doesn't help you could also have a virus. I've read that the FBI virus can cause lines to come up. You should try running windows defender offline on your PC. You'll need an empty USB stick or blank CD/DVD. If there are not the issue. Then it could be hardware. The video card could be going out. It could be that your motherboard may be having issues, or even your screen.

Viruses can make this kind of problems, but also overheating. Boot to Safe mode with networking, by pressing F8 after power on, and download Speed Fan (AMD CPU) or Core Temp (Intel CPU). Start some movie and see the maximum temperature, it should not pass 70 degrees Celsius.

Do you have to replace the mother board for USB

Hello, yes you are right for that USB replacement you need to replace the motherboard, as USB port is Onboard.

Cheaper solution... there are adapters available that can convert your serial port to USB. Then purchase a 4 (or more) USB hub, to plug into that.

And that's the only issue your Laptop has? No messages that pop up or displayed as you try and run them? Vista OS, right? At this stage all I can think of another program is stopping them like Windows Defender? is that on your system and running/enabled if so look into it to see if it's blocking restricting applications running.

When i turn on my laptop all i get is a black screen

Possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS (operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the backup battery (CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. Sometimes the memory card connections can be faulty either on the card or on the slot. Cleaning the slot and card must be done before you try a replacement. If the PC boots and fails then the hard disc can have bad sectors or is corrupt. However if there is no result the motherboard also can be suspected. In this case you might need the help of proper tools and equipment support to do a chip level service

How can I tell if the HD is working if the computer won't boot?

I don't think you can. If you take it to have a geek look at it, the first thing they will do is pull the RAM out, look at it to see if there is anything obviously wrong with it -- then re-seat it and try the machine again. So, you may as well at least do that. The RAM is behind one of the panels on the bottom of the computer. If there is two, pull both and try it with only one of them. This will start you on a process of elimination in case one is bad / one is good. But don't be disheartened yet if there is only one. It can loose adequate contact, and just pulling it and re-seating can fix.Toshiba builds a good machine. But, they are bad about getting clogged up with dust. If you don't take them apart ever so often and clean the dust out, it can become completely clogged at the out-vent. This of course causes a barely adequate ventilation system to become not adequate. And your machine begins to overheat. And that can damage the motherboard or the processor. So, once a year or so, I take mine apart and clean it out. The last time I did this the out-vent was completely matted over in such a way that the dust appeared to be a filter of some sort. I was confused for a minute (even though I've done it before) and then, "Oh sh$#, there are NO FILTERS!!!" The first time I did this, there was actually a ball of dust that had been rolling around in the fan housing, like a snow ball, getting bigger and bigger. It finally jammed the fan, and that's when I knew there was a problem - because I had become used to hearing the fan (a lot). And that's another thing to mention; If you start noticing that it seems like the fan is real loud, like running real hard all the time...that's because it is. And that's because your computer runs a little program that tells the fan how hot the processor is. I hope all this helps you. If yes, please take a sec to rate me. Thanks!Don

Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop keeps shutting off for no reason.

I think your fan might be broken....if the fan doesn't cool the pc,the processor or the chipset will automatically shut down the pc to prevent burning hardware.Or your hard drive might keep crashing.Oh yeah and abstract from this i don't recommend ever using mcaffe
