Toshiba laptop will keep shuting off
It is because of the laptop overheating problem. This is a very common problem with and could be easily fixed if you clean the heat sink.
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
- Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A70/A75) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
- Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
- Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
- I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

Toshiba Satellite A215-S7422
Hi
Thank you for your query
There is 2 ways of clearing this problem, both unfortunatley require that the motherboard be accessed, and should only be done by a qualified engineer
1) Once you have opened up everything and the motherboard can be seen, something called a 2 pin reset will need to be done, this will involve moving a jumper from wetting to another for a few seconds and then moving them back
2) Removing the CMOS battery for approx 10 minutes and then putting it back, pelase note that gain the CMOS battery can be found on the motherboard
I personally advise that you do not do this work yourself and book the laptop into a reputable PC shop
If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again -

4 meg upgrade on toshiba a215 will not boot
Whatever you did to keep it from booting, just reverse it back and see if it reboots corrctly. Then try to upgrade in a smaller amount and reboot again to make sure the changes are taken.

4 meg upgrade wont boot
If you changed the hardware and have a boot issue, then change the hardware back and try to boot normally. If the computer boots normally then something in the hardware is not compatible.

Hi,
What your friends have told you is correct for newer Toshiba models, they do have a "recovery partition"
Here is how you recover the OS >>>>>>
1, Make sure the laptop is turned off.
2, Hold down the zero (0) key and turn the laptop on, keep it pressed in until you see the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" screen.
3, Choose the "Recovery of Factory Default Software" and click next.
4, The "Recovery of Factory Default Software" will appear.
5, Choose the "Recover to out-of-box-state" you will then get a message that all your data will be lost. Click next and the recovery process will start.
Once complete you will see a message that the HDD has been recovered.
Before you start the recovery process its a good idea to back up any data you have unless you not bothered or have already done so.
Reagrds.

- Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD into the computer. Note: If you have a system recovery CD or restore CD (not a Microsoft CD) these steps will likely not work for your computer.
- Reboot the computer with the CD and press any key when prompted to press any key to boot from the CD. Once in the Microsoft Setup menu press R to open the recovery console.
- Select the operating system you wish to use; if you only have Windows XP on the computer you will only have one prompt.
- Once prompted for the password enter the Admin password and press enter.
- Once at the command prompt type bootcfg /rebuild to start the rebuild process.
- The rebuild process will step you through a number of steps depending upon how many operating systems you have on the computer and how the computer is setup. Below is a listing of the common steps you are likely going to encounter.
* Prompt for the identified versions of Windows installed. When you receive this prompt press Y if the bootcfg command properly identified each of the Windows operating systems installed on the computer. It is important to realize this command will only detect Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT installations.
* Prompt to enter the load identifier. This is the name of the operating system for the boot.ini. For example, Microsoft Windows XP Home users would enter Microsoft Windows XP Home edition.
* Prompt to Enter OS load options. When this prompt is received type /fastdetect to automatically detect the available options.
- Once you have completed all the available options in the rebuild and are back at the prompt type exit to reboot the computer.

Monitor is dim
Sounds like your inverter is failing. The inverter takes the dc power from the battery and charger and converts to high voltage AC current for the backlight lamp inside the screen. When the inverter starts to fail, the display will sometimes blink, dim out over time, flash just get dark and stay that way.

I HAVE A TOSHIBA SATELLITE A2215- S7422..I CHANGED
Hi:
The charging light can come on, even if the motherboard is bad.
I would suspect that possibly something was not assembled properly when you changed the fan. One thing to try is to take the laptop back apart, and remvove the heatsink/ fan assembly again, and make sure your CPU is properly installed, and that it is locked in place. Re apply heatsink compound and hope for improvement
