Hi
If your computer has windows xp then you can possibly reset the password by pressing F8 repeatdly when the machine is starting up until you see advanced start up options and from there select safe mode, in safe mode you may be able to sign in as a administrator or similar with no password.
if it doesn't let you in then you have two choises.
1. Try a password reset software - you will not lose the content on the drive.
-reset software
http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
or read here - h
ttp://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htmthe 2nd option involves reinstalling windows, in that case you would lose isntalled programs but you can recover your important data, see below
2. first back up your files with a linux cd and a external usb hard drive
and then reinstall windows to the computer with a windows installation cd. For acer laptop recovery please see my
tip on Acer RecoveryTo back up your files you would need a external USB hard drive, and another computer to burn a Linux CD from. download ubuntu
http://www.ubuntu.com/ and burn it to a cd, then start up from the disc and back up your files into the external usb drive.
The ubuntu webpage has instructions on how to download and burn the disk.
If the cd won't start then look at my tips and tricks section again theres a tip on how to solve boot cd issues.http://www.fixya.com/MyProfile/tips.aspx?usrid=364913
with the cd in the drive and it starts up, take the option to Try ubuntu without any change to your computer.
In ubuntu, it is quite like a windows system, its as simpe to use as windows is.
In ubuntu, with the external usb drive connected, on the desktop
On the top right you have places, from there you can get into your
computers hard drive and then on the usb drive, just copy your files
from there to the external just like you would do with a windows
computer.
Things that you want to back up
c:\documents and settings\ your user name --- this place contains your personal data in most cases
that
is the most important place and that is where most of the files are
stored, ofcourse you will know better what and where they are.
