I have a inspiron E1705 that will not power up. I

Try to unplug ac adapter from the laptop not from the wall, if it is has a light on it then the adapter is good.
Plug it back in the laptop if the computer doesn't give you any light or if it gives you but dies down within seconds you'll need to replace motherboard. But if the computer turns on without any display press Fn+power button while computer is off Diagnostics should be running then after that, an error code will be prompted. if your still under warranty the best thing to do is contact Tech support for your laptop.

Dell Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 hangs

Windows file (probably mup.sys) damaged or corrupted. Suspect virus may have done this. If it will not boot to safe mode, then your only real option is to carry out a system repair by inserting the O.S. Cd and at the stage where it looks for a previous installation of windows, carry out the repair, (do not repair at the recovery console stage, wait until the prompt to install windows at the stage mentioned above comes up.)

Once you have it (hopefully) running, then download a command line scanner such as DRWEB and run it in safe mode to remove any memory resident viruses that may be present. I also suggest that you disable sys restore prior to running the scanner to be on the safe side. After any infection is removed, re-apply the system restore.

You can also install another hard drive and install windows on that then the old hard drive as slave and scan it from the newly installed drive. That way you can pull off any important files if needed.

Dell Inspiron adapter problem

Sounds to me like its a motherboard issue, especially with the randomness of everything and different adapters causing same issues. Get the motherboard replaced if the laptop is still under warranty.

Scratchy sound from cd/dvd combo

Hi,
This could be a couple of Things.
First if it,s DVD Player related. it could be that The DVD Player, needs the laser Head Cleaning. Any dust-grease or similar on the Laser head, will cause Distortion. The second option is the DVD Player itself. Some DVDs are removable Drives. with An eject Rom button underneath the Laptop. This will enable you to remove. Check the drives connection Pins At the rear of the Drive. ** Clean with a Bud/Swab moistened in lighter fluid/Meths** replace the Drive.
The other possible problem would be with your Laptops Sound Card/ Board if Fitted.
Finally The problem could be related to a motherboard Fault i.e Bad earth or other internal Component Fault.
Go simplist first ( clean the DVDs Laser Head.
Then Remove the actual DVD Drive if Possible. ** Check Connections At rear** Ensure that the drive has not been dislodged from its connector to laptop mainboard.

Regards And Good-Luck.

Mouse and Keyboard are slow or stuttering

System restore restores both good and bad. So you could try restoring to an earlier date, if you haven't made major changes recently. What is your anti-virus? Norton is a waste of time and I would uninstall it. My preference is Nod32 free trial from http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_eav.php. Run and anti spyware also, SpyBot S&D is good, but beware of imitators that will make the situation worse. When you have run these, done a disk cleanup and defragged then you can look at the hardware. Can you check that the keyboard cable is securely attached.

Express slot is bad

I would be trying another card before checking the laptop.

If the port itself was shorting out then it would be shorting out with or without the card in place.

No drive detected

hey koko

can you try to restart your laptop and try to go into BIOS..

press delete when your laptop is starting up.

when your already in BIOS, look for the booting sequence. you must determine that your harddrive is recognized at this point and make it a primary boot.

post back for any more questions ok.

How do you install a hard drive

Larry provides great answer up there ^^^ which is better down here. Larry Ng Jun 23, 2022 NO PC told (dell has 10000 models) no OS told, windows what"? no drive told. my wild wild guess is the boot drive is locked. and you are attempting and ******* act. to it. like deleting key parts of a running OS (windows) (like deleted tires on rims of 85mph moving car, fails) no real goal told, but the nebular "install HDD" one can add a 2nd drive easy or any of 1000s of external HDD models or external or internal, SSD or even a thumb drive. (vast) (just 2 steps in fact) but the boot drive , change out is far far far more complex. and you never not told that. you want to mess with the C: drive? now let me guess the real goal (sad I must) the OS drive windows is failing ( common) and some lil' bird told you it needs a new boot drive, and then fail to say so here. okay I will bite. 1: buy a new SSD (hdd fail and are slow) 2: buy a new OS, from MS. or get free w10. (ask how) 3: then put in new SSD, 4: run the w10 installer media (it is free) 5: load w10 to the SSD fresh 6: answer the silly 30 questions it asks. 7: and click activate. (buy it) ..
