Your don't explain which Logitech Harmony you own. I have seen on some harmonys that the auto programming for a specific device isn't sufficient to give useful enough functionality, the desired functions must be added manually. I'm assuming the device in question is listed for your remote. If it's not you are dead in the water. Your only option is to go back online with harmony, verify the device can be added and learn how to add functions manually. That's all I can help with the limited information you have supplied. It depends on the remote. If you have the long rectangular remote then it will only work TVs, not sound systems. The smaller curvy remote will do sound systems. But not every make. Programming is done by following the onscreen guide. If there are no codes for your Onkyo receiver, and there's no way to do a "search all codes" type scan, then you have to acceppt that it's a limit of the remote because it doesn't have the right codes in its memory.

I used 5002 and it works for on/off only. This is better than nothing. You can try codes from other Onyko devices to see if you can get one that provides more functional control.

Press the button you want to learn the new command 3. It's not really clear if all of this is Zone 2 or not, or if you intend a second program to play in Zone 2.

If your Zone 2 is to a powered amplifier and its speakers the Zone 2 output would be FIXED (not variable from the host TX-SR705), that is, at a level that the receiving amplifier would control.

Page 99 deals with it.

Having just passive speakers in Zone 2 requires you to set Zone 2 to "ACT(ive)".

Not knowing the specific cabling you use and the pathing...

Everything is digital. You're probably experiencing data dropouts.

Is the problem both audible and visual? THAT would point to data loss where the video and audio coexist - upstream of the TV and audio systems. If it just the audio medium, analyze its physical sugnal path and see where you can isolate or eliminate cabling and hardware. The ONKYO has indicators that would blink upon digital signal loss. Trace it back from there.*

* I always run the BEST video from each source directly to the TV and the BEST audio directly to the electronics. Unnecessary interconnects and hops are expensive and failure prone. Optical cable should be routed with lazy curves to avoid light loss and data dropouts.

In many systems with a DVR ALL viewing is from the DVR rather than LIVE.

Observe whether a given glitch is observable and repeatable on your DVR. If it IS, the transmission was bad at that moment and the result was captured. From this point there is no way to differentiate between bad data IN or bad data from the Hard Drive, unless you can bypass the DVR entirely or watch it truly LIVE.

If you have support for the DVR, the vendor CAN log into it and examine its error log data.

Did the speaker cailibration work on the speakers in question?
If YES, then the program material or settings you're using don't require the rear speakers.

By "Back" do we mean Surround or Surround Back? Surround Back speakers are the 6th and 7th channels in the 7.1 matrix. Not all source material has programming for them. But when using any 7.1 digital surround mode you can get anything, even stereo recordings, to output something from every speaker.

My receiver say's "Protect" or turns on then off. What's wrong? Seven times out of ten it is a shorted speaker or speaker wire. To determine your exact problem, the first step is to disconnect all speaker wires "at your receiver" Next: Turn the receiver back on. If your receiver still says "protect" or turns off, it needs to be serviced. If your receiver stays on; reconnect your speakers one at a time and power back up after each speaker. You may find that after reconnecting all speaker wires it works! Most commonly the small braids of wire from the + to the - have touched and have caused the problem. In some instances, you noticed the problem only when turning the volume up. either way, make sure the exposed wires to your receiver are no longer than 1/2" long and are completely under the screw down terminal or slide in. When you've found the wire or speaker with the problem, your receiver will go back into "protect" At this point, disconnect the wire from the speaker at the speaker that may be causing the problem then test again.* Note* Make sure speaker wires do Not touch each other as this Will cause a short! If you turn the receiver back on and it stays on, you now know the problem is in your speaker itself. To test your speaker, you will need a multimeter. Set it to ohms resistance and touch the speaker terminals, if there is a short internally the meter will read "1......" If it's an analog meter, it will peg to the right. There's your problem. Now, within any speaker there are quite a few possibilities as to what could be causing the problem. Most common is a blown coil and the speaker needs to be replaced. Some speakers have internal crossovers (usually floor standing speakers) and may have a shorted or burnt board (usually very visible brown burn marks on the board) and can possibly be repaired if your handy with a soldering iron. Now, if you disconnect the speaker wire at the speaker and it still says "protect" Check your wire for the obvious cut or nail thru the wire if possible. If your system has wiring that runs behind walls, you may need to use your meter again. Disconnect the wire at both ends, keep the ends separated, put your meter on ohms resistance and touch probes to the + and - wires at one side. If the meter pegs to the right or reads "1...." the wire is shorted and needs to be replaced or repaired at the short. Hope this helps.

are you sure you have the HDMI output turned on through the DVD player? are you sure you have the following;

HDMI Monitor out running to the TV
Correct input on the TV

Sounds like you're over heating the unit;. If the add on speakers are too little or to much for the Onkyo receiver or head unit then this will happen. Try putting leaving volume at half way - see if it rocks on - if yes then the speakers may be either too small to have the unit head at a higher volume - too large [ say you have 2x 12's or even 10's - ] then the unit will overload and shut down. Look on the back of the unit - if you have two settings - make sure the speakers are attached to the 8ohm not the 4ohm - and see again. The speakers may be either 4 or 8 ohm and they should be matched with the audio out at the main unit.
You have a very high end receiver and these are also very picky to what they work with - so keep experimenting and louder is not always better is a good motto when you reach this high end of the audio spectrum. Don't kill your speakers with all the audio horsepower of the Onkyo is what I am saying.

First, try plugging a lamp into the socket and see if that works. Next, plug the receiver into a different outlet and see if you have the same problem. Usually, when a receiver shuts down after a few seconds, the problem is a shorted output transistor causing the system to go into auto-protect. A blown transistor may be caused by speaker wires touching at either end. Just a stray strand of wire can be enough to cause real problems.
