Verbatim External, USB 2.0, 750GB Capacity, Silver . 750 GB Hard Drive - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I canĀ“t see the portable hard drive unit in my pc
First, try to connect it to a different computer, to see if it can be read on _any_ computer at all.
Second, check the warranty-status of the unit; if the warranty still is valid, Verbatim will replace the hardware (but will NOT make any attempts to 'recover' your files).
Third, an external drive has two major components -- the disk-drive and the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if that interface hardware is the problem.

I have verbatim external drive usb 2.0.
An external drive has two major components -- the disk-drive and the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if that interface hardware is the problem (and if the disk-drive by itself is 'readable').

Does the verbatim harddisk external
Yes. It's one of the features of the USB hardware interface,
and it's necessary for the Mac Operating System to be 'compatible' with the file-systems used on Windows computers.

How to re-join two partitions
You cannot. You delete both and then make one partition.
There is software available that will let you resize a partition. (E.g. Acronis Disk Director). In this case you delete one partition and the resize the remaining partition to use the space created.
Most important: Back your data up to another hard disk before making any changes to your disk.
If this helps please vote for my solution.

How do i backup my files using the verbatim
May I know the Model # of the External Hard Drive?
You can directly copy the data that you want to backup and paste it in the external Hard Drive. You can also right click on the folder/data and select sent to option--->and then select the external hard drive (a drive letter will be assigned to the external hard drive also).

Friend sent me a usb stick that I can't open
don't format it...most usb sticks actually have two partitions. That partition that is saying to scan or reformat is the partition that has the usb stick setup files. Open the icon "My Computer" and see if there is another drive listed in there....like drive "K" or something else. Usually once you click on not to format, another windown will open and ask what you want to do with this drive. If the other drive is listed, just click on it to open it and retrieve the files. If it isn't listed, try another usb port or reboot the computer and try again and make sure you have an internet connection to see if there is a driver that is needed.

I have just purchased a Verbatim external hard drive
You can simply copy the contents of your HDD/s to your external drive, but bear in mind hidden files and 'read only' file will not be copied unless you change their attributes. This includes "Outlook Express" mail boxes. Or you can as you say, put a check the boxes.

If you can't hear it now but could before all this happened, then it is most likely that when you forcibly disconnected the drive that read/write heads inside HDD got stuck on platters so disk can't spin now. If that is the case then you can't do anything. If it is newer disk with SATA drive inside, you could take it out of its case (but you would probably lose warranty if you have one) and connect it to some desktop PC via SATA cable just to make sure that electronics board inside case isn't the cause of problem, which I doubt but it is still possibility.

I dropped my external hard drive - a Verbetim
If your drive is making whining and clicking sounds, then you have a mechanically damaged drive which had what we called a 'head crash' due to the drop!
If you can read/access the disk partitions/drives, I strongly suggest that you perform a full disk backup (with track error skipping) to another device. Also try a file by file copy to another drive (slow but you know exactly what is accessible).
You may want to try to use 'Spinrite' (Google and read about it first) to attempt to repair some of the issues but unfortunately, a disk 'head crash' is usually fatal physical condition and data recovery requires specialized equipment and is VERY expensive!
Hope it helps: let me know ho you go!

Verbatim external harddisk drive 500 gb when i
Ouch!
If the installation disk that came with the drive has any sort of troubleshooting or recovery tool, try that first. If not, try the
trial version of System Mechanic from Iolo. It's a really good piece of software that could help recover the data if possible.
As a last resort, the Verbatim website suggests Norton Disk Doctor or Data Rescue X. They may have free trials. You'll have to check their website.
Beyond this, you're probably looking at a professional data recovery company. That can be expensive!
Good luck! Remember to rate the solutions!

USB external hard drive does not show up on OS X desktop
You need to be sure that it is formatted as a FAT32 drive and not as a NTFS. When you are in Vista right click on the drive icon and click on properties. You will see NFTS or FAT32 under file system. Your drive must be FAT32 to be recognized by a Mac. Iomega.com has a FAT32 formatting software that you can download for free on your Vista PC and re-format the drive as a FAT32 drive.
