How update firmware?

Please. When an electronic device is start acting strange, a software update is the worst thing you can try to solve the problem. Updates are only allowed if the system is working without an error. If it is not working correct, you can't be sure it will load the update correct and you never know what happens when the update is started. For every update there is a condition, the electronic needs to work perfect and the battery / power supply must be capable of delivering enough power during the whole update process. External drives are so simple, they hardly ever need any peat. If they need one, you can find it on google. And the firm will send mails to any registered user. With any firmware update, more warnings coe than I can write down here. If you have a problem, look if there is an other way to solve this.

Windows just doesn't see the drive

If you connect the device to your computer, theoretically after installing any kind of "driver-finder" software, it has to be able to find a suitable working driver for the device. If this does not help, please kindly try to check the functionality of the mentioned device on other platforms because the device itself might have errors preventing any system from recognising it.

Since a Windows 7 Update,

For that first try below. First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Then if still same problem then check it on another computer scan it with updated antivirus. Then check. If still same then format it then need to recover data with recovery software. You can recover data after format it but format is the last choice first try above.Try on different computers. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa

How do I save memory on my mini and save files on

Attach the cable from the external hard drive to an available usb port on your mini. Here is a link to the Guide provided with the unit if you do not have it. There should be a setup section. Use this drive to store all your pictures, music, documents etc.

When I try to mount

Unfortunately, that does not sound good. What format is your drive? (Mac OS extended/ FAT32/ NTFS/ etc). If it is a mac format you could try something like drive genius to hopefully be able to get it working again. If it is a different format you could try G-parted or there are a lot of good tools on ultimate boot cd (although they are kind of geeky and hard to use).

Unfortunately if it is starting to die, and the info on it is really valuable to you, your only option may be able to send it off to a data recovery place, but they are VERY expensive (sometimes $1000+ and it's not even guaranteed to work). I wish I had better news.
If this was a help please give me 4 thumbs up as I am trying to build up my rep on this site!

If it still has a valid warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

Otherwise, open the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the adapter was the problem.
