I just received an Iomega

I just had one ofthe Select Hard Drives do that. I bought it, let it warm up till the next day, plugged it in and NOTHING. It was never recognized by the computer, never came up in the disk management area and made very little if any noise. Finally after much trouble shooting with one of their techs doing all the things I had already tried like changing out the cable and the power cord for different ones they decided it was a DOA drive. They sent me a new one after I sent the original new one back to them.

Before you call them you might want to try the same thing. Try a different data cable and a different power cord (not at the same time or you won't know which was bad if it does work!) and then you can call the tech and tell him what you tried.

Good luck. I doubt I will ever buy another Iomega drive.

Will i be about to use with both my laptop running

Yes, because boyj Windows xp and windows 7 utilize the NTFS file system. If it was windows 2000 or earlier, they wouldn't, as they would have different file systems. NTFS versus FAT32 for the older operating systems.

Computer will not recognize hard drive

uninstall and reinstall the drivers for USB ports
or try connecting the hard drive to some other ports and check if it is working
if it works in other ports then the problem is with that particular usb port
or try connecting some other usb devices to the same USB port, if those devices work then the problem is with the hard drive
Thank you

When i plug it in there is no power lights or

Hello,

Most of the time this happens it's either a mixup with the adapters, a failed adapter or a failure in the enclosure.

Read the labels on the outside of the drive and find the V or Volts or A or Amps. These should match the output Voltage and Amperage on the adapter. If they are wrong, go digging for the proper adapter and then try again. If it works great, if not or if you already have the correct adapter move onto the next set of instructions.

Ok, you have the correct adapter and still no lights or activity, time to head down to the local PC store. Ask the technicians to move the hard drive from the iOmega enclosure into a new enclosure and test it in the new enclosure. If it works buy the enclosure, thank the techs and be on your way.

If the drive fails to work that means the actual hard drive is the issue and you will need the help of a specialized lab like the one I work in to retrieve your files from the drive. If this is only a backup of your files it will be cheaper to simply buy a new drive and re run your backups to the new drive. If you had original files on the drive and need to attempt a recovery, reply here with your location Country, State, City) and I will recommend a facility near you that can help. If you know you will need this option it would be helpful to have the technicians at the PC shop place the hard drive in an anti-static bag when they are done testing.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Iomega no blue light. won't

Try a different power supply unit and wall outlet. If you have done both and the drive still will not turn on, then your unit is dead.

Be sure to connect it to both the USB port and the power if applicable. Install all the drivers from the drivers disk that came with this product. 1.) Install the drivers from the disk, only drivers pertaining to your specific operating system.
2.) Connect the device.
3.) It is aways a good idea to install the drivers before connecting the device!
Give me a shout if you need addition assistance!
Thanking you

The 1 tb hard disc is not beign reconised by comp

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.
