Have you ever connected this external harddrive to a macbook?
If you formatted it with your mac, it typically formats to a mac filesystem. What you would need to do is plug it back into the macbook, open up Disk Utilities, and then, after choosing your ext. hdd. you tell it to format into the EXFAT format. which is compatible with both systems.
I have a white light on my iomega external
There is a chance that the only thing that isn't working on the external hard drive is the actual controller of the enclosure. What you could try doing is opening up the external hard drive to get at the actual drive that's inside. Go online and look for something called an IDE to USB adapter. They are usually relativly cheap, 10-20 bucks. This will plug into the back of the hard drive and then to the computer with a usb cable. See if the drive is readable. or if you have another open SATA port in your desktop computer, just try connecting it as a secondary hard drive. See if it will read it.
I cant find my manual and I need to download my

Hi - Does your laptop have more than one usb port? If so try the drive in it/them. Also, try another device (mouse, etc.) in the USB port(s) and see if it works.
The drive probably (you didn't say which model so I'm not sure where). has a power led somewhere. Does that light up when the drive is plugged into the notebook? If not that would certainly be cause for it to not be recognized.
Lastly, you didn't specify which notebook you have so I can't tell you how to; but upon bootup get into the BIOS setup menu and check any settings for USB and storage devices - don't do this if your not comfortable with it or haven't done it before.
If nothing else works in the USB port(s) it would point to possibly something done while in the repair shop that was an accidental no-no.
Good Luck,

Iomega 500g sounds like it just keeps recycling
The hard drive seems to be going out. There are platters on a hard drive stacked on top of each other. If it gets dropped or handled a bit rough, these platters can break and cause the hard drive to not work.
My iomega external hard drive
if it is making a clicking sound then the arm which has the magnetic needle on it is malfunctioned. that clicking sound is caused by the device being dropped or banged hard against something. you will have to replace the drive. sorry to give you the bad news. I will save you the time by saying you will not be able to recover any data that is on the drive if it is click. 2 out of every hundred drives you will maybe be able to get the data back but then you considered very luck.
HI... Can I clone my
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
this program will allow you to clone your hard drive directly to your external, you can then expand the partition using 'disk management' which can be found typing it into the 'run' window from the start menu.
this will erase the external drive however and i wouldnt recommend booting from it externally.

Hello Glen bcfc
Most likely your hard drive read/write arm is broken, you can try to smack it, you can freeze it and immediately plug it in to your PC (rarely works) or have a professional data recovery service do it for you.
