My HF10 started to mysteriously autozoom as well, and I had made no setup changes. I don't have exactly the same symptoms as you describe except that it would begin to zoom when I didn't want it to. I noticed the [I.AF] (Instant AutoFocus) icon, so I went into the menu (Camera Setup - AF Mode) and turned the "Instant AF" to "Normal AF". After that, the autozoom seemed to have stopped. I set it back to "Instant AF" and it did not autozoom again. I wouldn't know how to turn the autozoom back on again even if I wanted to, but thankfully it appears to be gone now. Hopefully it will stay in manual zoom mode. Hope that helps.

On both my Canon camcorders the blinking green light just indicates the camera is successfully charging the battery. If it doesn't go off the battery may be bad.

I use Format Factory, free software that converts to any format from MTS, can do basic editing such as joining files, trimming, resizing & audio adjustments. I use a card reader to transfer the files to computer, then load the files into Format Factory for conversion to AVI, MPG & other formats, which media player accepts.

The zoom rocker switch is part of the control block assembly and is a common problem on, not only the HF 10 but other models as well. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively but it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified technician. If your camcorder is in "EASY" operation, it will not allow you to change certain features in the menu. On the other hand, if your camcorder is in "EASY" operation, it should be autofocusing.
