Vertical Lines through incoming faxes
Sometimes you may see vertical streaks/black lines
on the faxes you receive. Either your FAX/MFC's
primary corona wire for printing may be dirty, or
the sending party's fax scanner may be dirty. Clean
your primary corona wire (see pages 13-18), or ask
the sender to make a copy to see if the problem is
with the sending machine.
Cleaning the Drum Unit
We recommend you place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of
disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering toner.
1 Carefully turn the drum unit upside down.
2 Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tab
from right to left several times.
3 Return the tab to the Home
position ( ) before
reinstalling the drum unit.

This is a drum defect. You are going to have to replace the drum unit. I have seen this so many times I have lost count. The drum unit is the part that your toner cartridges are installed into. Just order one in and replace it. The lines will go away.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

How do I use the phone
There are two phone jacks on the back of the unit, one is for the line and the other is for a phone. In the brother units that have a phone handset, you can plug this in and it will work as a phone simply by picking up the hand-set, on the ones that don't...you will need to hook up an analog phone and when you put the unit in fax mode you can then pickup the handset and use the phone.

My machine will not copy from my computer,it
lets start simply... turn off your fax and turn it on...
next if its connected via usb... then plug out the usb and plug it back in... if its connected via network and ethernet... verify that the network is up... and that the ip address on your fax is the same as the one on your fax driver... ping your fax machine...if it is unable to get your ping... then you either have a network problem... which means someone else might have the same ip as your machine or your machine might have failed... but before you draw any such conclusion... reinstall the driver and see if that fixes it...

Clear memory of Brother intellifax 2900
with this model, power the Brother fax machine off with the power button, then, while holding down the Stop button, power the fax machine back on. Keep the stop button held down for a few seconds. That should clear the jobs resident in memory.

Machine not sending information.
Yes, most definately so. There are ways to boost the output signal of your machine but these days nobody has had to do it because lines are much clearer in the western hemisphere. The Magic Jack is great for voice calling but the faxes need instant responses from each other to progress through the initial training protocol and onto the document transmission. You may, if you have one, try another magic jack. It could be down to your particular Magic Jack. Try faxing without the Magic Jack.
