Either the charging circuit is faulty, or the battery has drained and the safety circuit has disabled it. If you have a warranty send it back, if not, take it apart and try charging the battery from an external 5v source. Do not leave it this way for more than a half hour as it will overheat and could explode.

After it's gotten a bit of a charge (if you have a voltmeter check that it's over 3.7 volts) put it back in the player and it should start up. Now try charging it the regular way. If it doesn't charge further then the charge circuit is damaged. Try a cell phone repair center, they should be able to help.

please dont even try to turn on the device. water went inside and there may eb some problems with the circuit now. Get it immediately checked at the service center or with any technician.

You should try rebooting serveral times. This clears up most problems.

yes you do, bring it to your techncian or computer center to repair it...

Thanks and credit to eyez12 - the 2nd option below worked for me

try going to menu, settings, system, and then clicking the update ARCLibrary button, that was all it took for me.
if that doesn't work then go to repair and formatting tools and click "clear temp system files and cache"

Not sure if this will help you or not, but I have a 404 and was having issues with the scheduler changing the channels for me also. Then I realized that it is a infrared transmitter - the same frequency as a remote I realized what I was doing wrong - Your archos station must be facing the cable box that it is turning on. I had my archos on top of the cable box and it was not working - but when I turned the cable box and the archos station to face each other - so the signal can transfer - it worked just fine. Hope that helps!

First download the newest Firmware (http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=global&lang=en) from the archos website.

Plug your device to your PC

Power down the unit completely, While off hold down the Power and TV/LCD button. This will bring up again the screen with 3 options.

1) No
2) Repair
3) Formate Disk

choose the Repair option, wait for 5 mins then you can see your device detected in the PC.
Open my computer, find the archos drive, open it, then you are at the root directory you should see files and folders.

copy the OS .aos file downloaded from archos website to the directory we just opened.

Ones the copying is complete.
In your device choose the option done. It will update the new OS and it will restart automatically.

Depends on what kind of Archos you have, but could be a problem with the drive inside

i have a 20 to 30 digit wep key and i just changed the settings to 128 bit and made it a hexadecimal wep. (hexa- ?) it should work.

Does it have power? If the battery is drained, it will NOT boot straight up when you plug it into your pc or docking station.
You need to plug it in for a good hour before trying to boot it up.
Once you've managed to boot it up, give it a full reboot by pushing a pin in the tiny hole at the bottom.

hitesh_rao - the reset button is at the bottom by the USB and docking ports. Tiny hole, need a pin or paper clip. Once pressed, just switch it back on.
This may be a stupid question, but when trying to configure the TV IR controller function and entering the relevant codes for my TV's, it asks 'did the TV switch off = Yes/No?'
None of my TV's switch off and then I cannot go any further with the config. Is this right? I have logged this with Archos FOUR times now, and they just respond with 'the controller does not control your TV'. I am fully aware that it is not a TV controller, but then why does it want to switch off my TV during the config? I just want them to answer that question.
Somebody please help!

I had the same problem. "Invalid Map Code", etc. I went to archos.com/gps_install, and followed the directions. I had to update my 605 wifi firmware. Once I did that, I entered my map code and map version (found the version on a .txt file on the dvd, forget which one), and followed the directions from there. Seems to be working so far, although I haven't actually taken it on the road yet (can't seem to get a GPS signal in my garage).

I'll post a follow-up once I know it's working.

Not sure exactly what the problem is by the description, but it might be that you have the usb preference set wrong. make sure it is set to "PC Hard Drive". Look under menu/settings to check this setting. You can also try to "clear temporary system files and cache" under menu/settings/repair and formatting tools.

That will take you to the TVTV website where you can pay for another year's subscription. Currently around £14.

I think the Archos 605 has a 2gb file limit, so the only option would be to split the avi.
Search on Google for an avi splitter - there are some free ones out there.

Try reseting device by inserting a pin in the bottom reset hole

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it. This might work for other error codes too. These are the steps i followed 
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos Archos should be plugged in toPc before starting the process.
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc 
* When the white option screen comes up, just pick the format disk
* Wait until all done do not pick any option on archos after format is done Pc should recognize your archos in 5 seconds 
* Put the firmware in root section of the archos not in any folder.
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug it back to pc 
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving, wait until it is all done, it will shut off. Turn it back on and  your archos will be back to normal

The default code is 0000, try that.

If not, contact Archos Support with your model number and they will fix you up :D

You need to plug your Archos into your pc and explore the drive.
Copy the plugin from your pc to the root of the Archos.
The Archos should say that it's found software and start installing.

The TV Program Guide is actually controlled by a 3rd party.
I registered my Archos at Archos.com when I bought it......I'm not sure how you'd stand with a 2nd hand one.
Basically, the website tells me that I only have 82 days left to my TV Program Guide 'subscription' and if I want it for another year, I have to pay £14.90GBP!
However, I can tell you that the Program Guide is pretty rubbish. All it does is let you record the SAME channel that your TV is showing. It does not record a different channel if you want to watch something else and if the TV is switched off, it doesn't record at all!!
Reading the manuals and the reviews on the Archos website, I was led to believe that it would do all of the above, but when I tried to get help from Archos Support, they basically told me that it doesn't do any of that!!
As much as it p'd me off, that is the only flaw I have found in the Archos and the other things it can do are quite amazing.
Try searching for 'Archos Forum' and check out some of the features - it is a remarkable machine!
