I have just got the same problem!

You could contact Archos, but I gather their minimum cost for repair is $85. Plus shipping and parts.
A suitable hard drive would probably be around $100.
Amazon has a new Archos 7, 8gb wifi + 16GB microSD for around $200.
While the memory is smaller it is more rugged and better suited than a hard drive for a portable device.

Make a search on ebay for archos firmware issues somebody has a video on sale shows step by step how to fix it.

i have the same problem. Hopefully archos stops working on android for a sec and comes back to update the 605. Although for me, megavideo works on firmware 2.1.0.4. On others i get the F9 icon or "video can't stream, please check" - or something like that

Remove the DVR station from the box, and attach the DVR adapter plate (found in the
DEVICE box); it is correctly attached when it clicks on.
-Take the Black Audio/video Marked "output" cable, and insert the connections into the corresponding coloured sockets, yellow>yellow, green> green etc. Make sure they are
inserted into the TOP row on the back of the DVR Station "Marked Out". The remaining
black connector should be plugged into the SW socket, which can be found underneath
the orange socket on the back of the DVR station. (If after setting up your ARCHOS the
picture is very green remove the black cable from the SW socket)
-Plug the SCART connector into the SCART socket on your TV set. These are usually
marked AV1, AV2, or Ext 1, Ext 2, L1, L2, Line in 1, Line in 2, Aux 1, Aux 2, make sure you
select the corresponding channel above (ie AV1 AV2 etc) on your TV set when you turn on
the TV.
-Attach the UK plug adapter to the Mains charger, and plug the charger into the DC-In
socket on the back right of the DVR station. Turn the mains on at the socket.
-Insert the powered off ARCHOS unit onto the DVR station, the unit will now power on,
and ask if you want to 'Switch to TV out', select 'Okay'. The 'TV output configuration' set
up will load up. Select 'Okay'.
-TV connection: When your DEVICE is connected to the optional DVR Station you need to
select the type of video output (Composite, S-video, component, RGB, HDMI etc), based
on how you have connected the DVR Station to your TV and what possibilities your TV will
allow. For the cables supplied and the instructions aboce you will need to select either
RGB or Composite. Use the arrows to go through the options and select either RGB or
Composite.
-TV Standard: this should be set to PAL (Europe). Select 'Next'.
-Now you need to test the settings, select 'Okay', the ARCHOS home screen should now
be visible on your TV set. If you have nothing showing on your TV, scroll through the
AV/Ext channels, the channel will correspond to the AV/Ext socket you connected the
cable to on your TV set. Use the ARCHOS remote to select 'Okay'; you have now set up
the output connection settings for your DVR station.
-You may need to adjust your output from the ARCHOS to match your TV, from the "TV
Format" options. Use the arrows on the ARCHOS remote to select the format of your TV
screen, so the ARCHOS unit outputs the correct picture size (ie 4:3 / 16:9 etc). Use the
arrows on the remote to select 'Next'.

Try these steps below to get yourArchos 101 touchscreen working again:
ARCHOS 32 (with volume buttons on the side of the device)
- Turn off the device and wait 10 seconds.
- Press and hold the volume + button while powering on the device.
- Keep the volume + pressed until the Recovery mode starts (white screen).
- To move from one option to another, use the volume buttons. To select an option, press the ON/OFF button
ARCHOS 32 (with SD card slot) and ARCHOS 28
- Press and hold the power button until the ARCHOS banner is displayed and then release it.
- Press the power button twice (like a mouse double-click) while the banner is still displaying.
- A white Recovery screen should appear within a couple of seconds.
- To move from one option to another, press the + and - buttons. To select the highlighted item, hold down on the power button.

try going to menu, settings, system, and then clicking the update ARCLibrary button, that was all it took for me.
if that doesn't work then go to repair and formatting tools and click "clear temp system files and cache"

Hi, the chances are you have got one of 2 problems, the 1st you can have a go at solving but the 2nd will require someone who knows what their doing and how to replace a laser.

the thing you can try yourself is go to a computer hardware store and buy a cd leans cleaning cd and run this in your telly and hopefully this will solve your problem.

if how ever it dont solve the problem then this means your going to need to get the laser replaced as its burned out and no longer reading the disks, the problem with this is finding the part so you will need to shop around your local tv repair shops and see what prices you can get .

First I would suggest swapping them with 3 other positions. And see if they play there. If they play there and the cd's that you had in other positions don't play in the slots where the original ones were, you will know that there is a problem with the player and not the cd's. I understand that they play on media player. But may not play in the Archos

eBay. I purchased all 4 plug-ins for $20.

you need to do it for so many times..try to do it in content portal while you connect to wifi connection..then you need to fill up all important data by yourself

They just decided to cancel the TV guide service.. one that I BOUGHT the 605 because of... I have started to try to gather names of people who bought the ARCHOS partially because of the TV Guide feature.... The customer service is non existent with this company.... go to Facebook and search Archos Doesnt care.... If we can get enough people together perhaps we can force a change...
