Find the serial number

Easy way to find a serial number for any camera is open a photo with any editing software and look at the EXIF data. The serial number is near the middle. If you want the easy free way, download Irfanview, open any photo from your camera, hit I (information) and then E (EXIF) you will see all the settings and the serial number.

The latch for the battery cover on my Power Shot

Probably not as the cause is most likely broken molded plastic parts that where to small and thin to last very long. Seems to be a common problem on this otherwise great pocket camera. Use tap or a rubber band to keep the battery cover closed so the contacts still work. Bad design by Canon.

No remote cable release

Using the self timer works very well, otherwise you need to hold the camera very stable by leaning against a wall, hold the camera with your arms and elbows tucked into your side, or sitting down.

SD Card will not 'seat' in camera

Do you mean, it won't stay in place? when you insert the card correct, it will lock in the correct position. When you want to remove the card, you have to push on the card till it says click and then release the card, it will come out because a spring is driving it. If you managed to pull out the card, perhaps you damaged the locking system and you have a problem. Also chai if you did not try to put it in, the wrong way around. All efforts to put in a memory card other than the correct way, can end in a damaged card holder. Success

My Canon A720is seems to lock up at times. It will

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't take a picture when the shutter button is pressed, or with an inoperative flash. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

My camera doesnt' work indoors. i try to take a

You must have a software glitch because the flash is supposed to be in the auto mode when the selector is in auto, unless you manually turn the flash off and the flash should go back to auto every time the camera is turned off and back on. Here's a work around. Turn the dial to indoor and use the flash button on the ring to set the flash to auto. In the indoor setting you can set the flash to on, off, or auto.

My camera won't flash no matter how many new

Some Canon cameras use some of the screws around the perimeter of the camera to serve as a safety switch to prevent activation of the flash if the case is opened. See this article for more info.

Wont take pictures with flash

The problem is in the battery holder of the CR1220 battery.

-Take out the CR1220 battery (the little round one).

-When you replace it, put a bit of aluminum foil against the back, between the battery and the plastic holder, to make it a nice tight fit. One layer won't do it, but don't put in half the roll.

-Put it back in. Done

Using a fresh battery & clean it all with alcohol = good idea as well. Worked for me.

The door that keeps the batteries and memory card

Mine is broken also. There are 2 tabs in the cover and 2 raised slots on the camera body. When you open the battery compartment, you are supposed to slide the lid forward releasing the tabs from the slots, before the cover pops open. If you don't do this, you ~will~ break the tabs (or the raised slots). Well someone who didn't know this got a hold of my camera tried to force the compartment door open, breaking the raised slots that are part of the camera body.
Take a close look at yours and figure out how this latch is supposed to work and then see which part is broken. If it's the tabs on the door you can buy a replacement door online (do a search) and have someone good with electronics install it. (requires soldering). If (like me) it's the slots on the camera body that are broken, then it's not repairable. The original parts are too small and flimsy to be repaired (designed to fail). My best idea is to find some other way to latch the door closed. I've tried a velcro strap but it doesn't hold the lid tight enough and I've looked in hardware and craft stores for some kind of latch that might work, if I could atach it to the outside of the door somehow, but haven't found anything suitable (it would have to be small but sturdy and attach to the thin plastic of the door)
I'm thinking of taking it to a jeweler because they work with very small parts and might have something that could be screwed into the plastic door and camera body.
If you know of a better fix, please let me know.

Card locked

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How do i just set camera to put date on pictures

On page 72 of the manual is printed how to imbed date and time in the image data. If the date and time are shown on the screen, or when you review the picture on a computer, I can't find. Digital cameras use Meta Data, exif data to keep the important information in the picture. This can be viewed with the appropriate software. Not many cameras put the data visible in the picture that was shot. link to manual of your camera

Upgrade your firmware, or get your little tablet battery checked, the date stamp does not get its power from the reset batteries but a built in one built exclusively for it.

Camera wont turn on

Couldn't find a firmware upgrade for my PowerShot A720. Tried putting a piece of rubber under the spring on the lid to make it tighter and it helped because I can take more pictures before I get the dead battery message (even thought they aren't dead). I bought the Duracell that you can check the charge on because I'm sure I've wasted dozens of batteries by now.
