JVC Everio GZ-HD7 Camcorder - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Camcorder water damaged.
try this :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .
it sounds crazy .
Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
.
Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, SIM, and phone. This should aid in drying.
Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.
It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).
beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.
This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.

Can not connect JVC Everio
Hi there,
Well If you want to get the footage of the HD7, you'll have to connect via USB and download the .TOD files and use a program to convert them....... You can use MPEG Streamclip software it will work with the .TOD files and convert them to a format that support your imac, you can please follow the below link to get the software -
http://www.squared5.com/
otherwise you can follow the below steps -
1. Load the JVC Quicktime component into your computer and reboot.
2. Copy the files with the extension .TOD from the camera to your hard drive. It requires the USB connection and not the Firewire connection (which is reserved only for the iLink protocol). Yes, it's slower but it works. Set the camera to "Back up video" and not "Play back video" when copying the files. Back up your data.
3. Use Automator to control Quicktime Pro to convert the .TOD files to .MOV files. I downloaded an excellent script from here:
http://automatoractions.com/files/compressquicktimeusingmostrecentsettings1.0.html
To use this script correctly, you must first use QT to open a .TOD file and export a test clip to the .MOV format you want/need. This sets the QT export parameters that the script will use. Leave QT open, boot Automator and load the script mentioned above. Set the script preference to use the current QT export settings (choose "QT Movie", not "MPEG4") and convert all the .TOD files to .MOV files. The script allows you to set the write location of the new .MOV files so choose your location.
Here's a link from JVC to a tutorial movie that explains how to work with their files on a Mac.
http://media2.jvc.com/camcorder/macHD.mov
Necessary software:
• Quicktime Pro v7.2
• Quicktime .TOD conversion component (provided by JVC on CD with camera; I could not find this component online for download)
• Automator
• FCE with AIC v1.1 (Apple Intermediate Codec -- provided with FCE 3.5)
Please post comments for more help or information.........
Good Luck!!
Thanks
I need a simple, easy
Hi bprice3944,
Software is available to convert and view the .TOD files on your PC and DVD. If you have the original disc that came with the camera then the instructions are given below to use it.
-Turn on PC
-Connect EVERIO to PC with the USB cable
-Turn on EVERIO
-See 2 choices on EVERIO screen, click 'Playback on PC'
-Close any programs that will open automatically on your PC (I thinkPowerCinema, another program that comes with the EVERIO, opens butclose this)
-On PC open Power Director (PD) software that came with EVERIO
-In PD, Click on the folder button (turns yellow on mouse over) in upper left corner of screen directly under 'Capture' button.
-See dropdown menu click 'open media folder'
-Look for drive that says EVERIO_HDD. Upload the required files.
-Allow computer time to convert files and then you will see your files populate in the media viewer
From here you can use PowerDirector to edit video. If you have lost the original disc, unfortunately only shareware (paid software) are available to convert these file. One of them can be viewed by clicking
here. Easy instructions are also available on the website.
If you have any more questions regarding this, feel free to ask.
Thank you.
JVC CAMCORDER GZ-HD7U
You CAN NOT use the Firewire to capture your footage like DV or HDV camcorders. I too Have a macbook pro and use FCPS2 to edit my footage. If you want to get the footage off of the HD7u, you'll have to connect via USB2.0 and download the .TOD files and use a program to convert them. I use MPEGStreamclip. It will work with the .TOD files and convert them to a format that iMovie or FInal Cut will understand. If this is not for professional work you'll probably be fine converting the footage to the HDV standard or DV standard and not have to render in FCP to edit the footage.
Caution... MPEG2 codec may be needed. If you have FCP or have Quicktime pro, you probably already have it other wise you can purchase it from apple for $29.99 or if you try real hard (not to hard) you can probably find it on a torrent for free.
I hope this helps your situation

Battery power problem
Even though the camera shows that the battery is charged it could still be that the battery is faulty. If you don't want the needless expense of buying a new battery just to find the fault is with the camera after all, try rigging up a test circuit with a piece of wire and a low voltage light bulb from a torch or fairy lights. If the bulb lights up then the battery should be OK. (Make sure the bulb works with another normal 9v battery you know is good.)
I just tried this with my camera battery and an old dud battery I had to scrap and the bulb lights up with the good battery as expected.
Manual for JVC GZ-HD7U
i recorded my video clip vertically! i need to rotate them from the camcorder! how do i do it????
I lost my software cd rom
i lost mine as well and got into contact with jvc. i had to pay $70 for mine. do you know someone who has the same camera as you?
Unable to
HHHhhhmmmm. I'd suggest the DV mode and if you camera has the option to output DV as letter box select this, as it is a faster version to edit with (due to compression of HDV). I don't know the camera but VTR is just the playing mode, so play the file you want while trying to connect. Is the signal coming from tape? If it is catured to the harddrive of the camera you will need to import not capture.
USB does not support video, USB2 maybe.
I
I can't download my videos from my JVC GZ-HD7U into my PC using Magix Edit Pro.
Hi there,
It happens because you didn't install the quicktime plugin. once the quicktime is installed it will show the preview of the video so you can make your selection.
download the quicktime plugin:
http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/update_qtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3e_update.htm
if not download the VLC player. it will nearly play every format. Choose your .tod file and play it on vlc.

hope its helps :) by the way i got the same camera :P
Downloading problems - distortion???
I have my pc hooked up to my hdtv via vga cable and the video playback is as good as it is if i were to playback from camera through hdmi ,my screen resolution is 1360x768 which is slightly higher than standard hd but lower than full hd but honestly I doubt you could tell the difference.....ps if you have a graphics card that supports 1920x1080p and obviously the tv also, you dont need hdmi out on pc......vga cable does the same job! im running an nvidia 8800gtx
My camera is not reconnized by the computer!
If you are using a Mac, you should also use the firewire cable (not a USB). Using the Mac program that comes pre-installed on the mac, iMovie, you can then import the movie and save it using imovie. Then you can also, edit and clip and merge and add all kind of special effects, titles and more.
Hope this helps.

Monitor Sound for JVC GZ-HD7
I've never heard of an adapter and after a quick google search and all the options voided the warranty, but if i were to make an educated guess... the easiest way and unfortunately bulky way of doing this would be to use the av jack and the cable that came with the camcorder, take one or both of the RCA stereo ends and pass them through a mic - line level converter and that should work, or you can use one of the stereo RCA ends and use a rca to phono adapter and then connect a headphone volume amplifier to that. Other than those choses, I see no other way to monitor your record volume with headphones.
JVC has been approached about this and they said they didn't include a headphone jack to reduce cost, but seriously. how expensive could that have been?
Burn DVD
you cant convert or import files .tod on windows movie maker.
