Power Board Problem

Your HDTV is capable of up to 1080P resolution. SDTV (standard def) signals are 480i; EDTV (enhanced def) is 480P; HDTV are 720P, (there is no 720i) 1080i and 1080P. Generally, those modes ending in "P" look better than those ending in "i". 1080i is the highest possible for broadcast TV, but BluRay disks and Directv have 1080P display capabilities. The double picture you're describing sounds like the TV is set to display only standard or enhanced def signals while the Dish Network box is supplying it with HD signals. You should locate the control for the TV's resolution and make sure it is set to "1080P" and then set the output of your Dish Network set top box to the highest output it offers. Do the same for your BluRay player and any other devices, too. Once set correctly, you should have a great picture once again. I hope this helps & good luck!

Our $2700 less than 3 year old Sony LCD KDL-40XBR5 did the same thing 2 weeks ago. Sony was anything but helpful. They said to take it to a repair shop or we could send them $550 and they would replace it with a $800 set. Repairman says that it is a panel and the part has been discontinued by Sony. The 46" sets had the same problem and were recalled but not the 40" screen. We stopped on the way home and purchased a 40"

you're LCD panel is gone. To replace it...$1500-$2K. But there is a silver lining to this dark cloud. No pun intended. It claims its the 46" but it appears to be a 40-52" problem. If you have an extended warranty it will pay for it.

The power supply board is dead.Tries websites Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

you either have a power supply problem or a inverter bd problem
id suspect the inverter board
its the panel that supply the power to the cold lamps that back light your lcd screen

I am pretty sure this is a Back Light failure or a bad Ballast. If it is the only fix is to replace the LCD Panel. I would contact Sony at 1800-222-Sony and see if the could help you with repairs and also to get a Factory Service Facility near you to confirm the problem.

Hi ,
I had same problem my TV. Replaced IC8002 on the 'D' board.
This is what we did:
1.Bought 2 x MCZ3001D from WES components in Ashfield Sydney Australia for $11.20 (each).
2.Friend had an 18 pin machine spun socket (not the crappy ones on EBAY).
3.Took back off TV
4.Put the 'D' board in service position
5.Noted which way IC8002 chip sat (Where position 1 is), also noted which 2 legs are not soldered.
6.Cut the black plastic that was covering this chip underneath (where D board screws into) as this is easier than removing the 'D' board.
7.De-soldered the IC8002 chip with a proper de-soldering iron. These are expensive though.
8.Soldered in the 18 pin socket.
9. Set the chip into the socket.
10.Tested TV, worked fine.
11. Put it all back together, plugged in Tivo, DVD etc etc etc and all bloody good stuff.
12. I now also have a spare MCZ3001D which is taped to the back of the TV for future replacement, which is now easier since its now in a socket.

if you have cable telivison try unpluging the cable from wall and tv the replugging it. make sure the connections are secure and also make sure the cable is plugged in straight. or your cable might be bad.

I would try a new T-CON board first.

The problem in most of the case are: 1. Interference from a defective fluorescent lamp at your room sending signals to the infrared receiver of the TV. 2. Defective infrared receiver itself that sending noisy control signals to the CPU. 3. Defective manual control withes it has leakage. 4. Water damaged control switch PC board.
