Need proper remote code
There are no known codes for most Sylvania models. The few codes published on the Internet usually do not work. The only way is trying remote auto program. I am telling you this because I have spent a while looking for sylvania codes for nothing. Manufacturer did not make them available.

Closeup the picture is lousy not sharp as in the store
first of all ------- Try changing the cable to another connector. If picture is still poor, try changing the cable for a new one. Also verify that the sky unit (or any other unit you are using )is giving a good picture by connecting it to another TV and see if picture is clear.
You could also verify the connections on the TV by inputting video from another source such as VCR or video camera.
if still the problem with new cables connected then ----
you will have to get it repaired because the IC component on the main board are got weak.and so the picture is getting worse slowly --- slowly.and later on it will get more damaged if not got repaired.so to avoid the damage get it repaired fist before further use.the cost of reparing will be negligible as its just a ic problem.and cost of single is near to $1 it depends upon how many ic are faulty.
but its worth getting it repaired.
thank you for using fixya.

How do I get my Sylvania MTS/SAP tv to switch over to video mode
If you do not have the remote, you can change inputs by doing the following:
Inputs are selected by using a number of methods, depending on the model of your Sylvania TV. Switching inputs is usually accomplished by pressing the "Input Select" button on the remote. Each press will simply cycle through each available input on your TV. If no remote is available, the front panel has a button that matches the function on the remote. This button is located on the bottom-right side of the TV and doubles as the "Enter" button when accessing onscreen menus.
Hope this helps.
