AKAI Menu screen wont stop flashing over tv signal
Main system control memory IC fault. This is a very small IC; have 8 solder terminals, and can be located very near to the main system control-chroma IC. Check and replace it. Be sure to replace it with the same number printed on it; in all respect. Otherwise, it won't go.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Before replacing it, try a reset to this set, and then check.
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.

Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
I could hear the volume but no picture
If you have perfect audio and video from a DVD player, then your TV is OK. So, what is it then? I have found that, with my service provider constantly updating their HD receiver for increased energy efficiencies, the receiver now no longer has the 'push' required to get the video up to the screen. For success, I would turn the Receiver 'off' then back 'on' and the resultant 'shot' of energy seemed to push the video enough to get the image going. New TV's are ever more energy efficient (that's why the Providers will often off a 'free' new TV if you go with their service... so their HD stuff will work and they test using their provided TV.

Samsung HT2310 in protect mode
If the set go under protect mode, there should be some short circuit inside the circuit boards, of any improper user setting might have happened. Just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 10 minutes or so, and check. This must make a hard reset to the set, and if no other fault is there, it must turn ON. If you wish to get more details about this kind of fault to Samsung TVs.,

I heard a pop
I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves
checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.
Screen will not appear
You have just found out why the plasma sets are fading from the market.
Both of you may have a power supply problem. The PS in plasma TVs is more complex than in LCD sets and therefore more likely to fail.
Since Akai is so poor on product support, they may not even have parts since that set was made by Samsung who also doesn't want to hear anything about them (their site doesn't recognize the Akai model number), you may be out of luck.
In researching Akai, I find large number of folks who will not buy any Akai anythings again.
This kind of performance is unusual for a Japanese company.
I got a shock (static, it's winter here) and
I would suggest you pull the AC plug overnight to see if this will reset it. There are components that may take hours to discharge.
If this doesn't help, you may have killed the IR receiver (or the cicuit that follows it) although it should happen on any newer consumer electronics that is properly designed and tested.
Both the set-top buttons and the remote eventually act on the same control circuit and if that has failed, it will not respond to remote or local control.
My tv remote doesnt work?
Make sure Batteries are good. Even if they are new they still can be drained and bad. Make sure they are in the right way. make sure the connectors inside the remote are not dirty. Clen them with A very fine sand paper.
