Defective display panel.

This model of SONY TV uses a Samsung display panel, the problem you have is the panel went bad. SONY was offering an extended warranty to change the panel free, please call SONY to check it out that if they still offer the free replacement.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. Sounds like T'Con board fault. Contact the authorized service centre for Sony. If this is true, the T'Con board will be available only by the Sony service centre. It sounds as though it could be any of three problems. Firstly, it could be a faulty screen - in which case it's a lost cause since replacement screens can cost more than new TVs. It could be your main (video) board which you could replace if you can find a matching one on eBay. Finally it could be your T-con board, which again can be replaced by finding the same part number on eBay. A plaid screen is not a problem I am familiar with per se, but those are the three reasons why one might have a faulty display. Hope that helps.

Sounds like a back-light inverter fault. Contact the authorized service center. Back-lights and inverter board to Sony LCD panel are built in; and if you wish to do any repair to it, you have to disassemble the panel. It is a skilled work; not a user repairable one. Gopakumar Gopalan Google

When it flashes 8 times it is indicating a possible Audio Protector circuit fault. this circuit is located on the "AU" board. You will probably have to purchase a new AU Board if you were to attempt to fix it yourself! Good Luck! Rich Lilja

How many times this standby/power light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it carefully. These blinks are fault indication, and known as blinking codes. Finally something different from the usual 'no picture' and 'stuck in standby' questions. Thank you.ONLY DO THIS IF YOUR TV IS OUT OF WARRANTY, otherwise call the seller or manufacturer and arrange a repair/replacement.Usually this is down to bad contact in one of the ribbon cables that connect the T-con panel to the screen driver boards at the top of your TV. All you need to do is remove ribbon cables (carefully, they are held by quite fragile plastic clips - you break the clips there is not reattaching it) and give the metal contacts a rub down with a piece of rubber - a pencil rubber will do fine [eraser for our American readers]. Detaching and reattaching the end attached to the screen will be hardest since it is in a slot not big enough for your fingers.Please TAKE HEED of the following safety instructions before attempting any repair:UNPLUG IT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING - sorry to shout but this is obviously a safety thing.You will have to remove it from any stand or mounting and carefully lay it flat on a clear surface (it is a large TV so have someone help you lower it) on its face. Remember screens are very susceptible to cracking if mishandled.Remove all the screws including the little hidden buggers near the input sockets and in the centre usually. If the back won't come off, don't force it but look again for a screw you might have missed.Once the back is off DON'T TOUCH any of the components on the circuit boards. Components like capacitors can still hold a charge when unplugged and you yourself might have a little static going through you that could discharge into the TV and scramble the firmware.

I would first check for defective capacitors on the inverter board that drives the backlight for the screen - assuming nothing at all shows up on the screen, no menus or On screen displays.

It sounds that the back light inverter board have the fault. Replace it.

LCD correct?

There are 2 types of lines they may be showing, both requiring the replacement of the LCD Panel.

1. Delamination Lines- they are usually multiple vertical lines that do NOT flow from the top to bottom of the screen. Looks look water dripped down or something similar

2. Single/Multiple Vertical lines - This is normally 1 or maybe a few solid vertical lines that travel from Top to bottom. I belive in some cases they may only travel to the screen center.

In both cases, this will always show when the TV is ON. Even if there is no signal being input to the TV. There are other possibilities but these can be the most common. Both require a new panel.

is this ur old picture tube tv?if it is so then it must be due to accumulation of moisture in the tube which can be eaisly removed by any mechanic.

Sony is replacing LCD Panels at no charge until October 31 2012. The KDL46XBR4 and KDL46XBR5. If you paid to repair they'll pay you the cash back you paid to repair it.

most likely you have faulty capacitors in the power supply. Do you have any experience in electronics repair??
