How do I know which part is causing the problem?
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Sony turn on and off no codes
Sounds like T'Con board fault. Contact the authorized service centre for Sony. If this is true, the T'Con board will be available only by the Sony service centre. No way to get it from open electronic spare part market. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.

How can i fix a plaid screen that is now constantly appearing on my sony kdl-40xbr4
It sounds as though it could be any of three problems. Firstly, it could be a faulty screen - in which case it's a lost cause since replacement screens can cost more than new TVs. It could be your main (video) board which you could replace if you can find a matching one on eBay. Finally it could be your T-con board, which again can be replaced by finding the same part number on eBay. A plaid screen is not a problem I am familiar with per se, but those are the three reasons why one might have a faulty display. Hope that helps.
LCD TV
Sounds like a back-light inverter fault. Contact the authorized service center. Back-lights and inverter board to Sony LCD panel are built in; and if you wish to do any repair to it, you have to disassemble the panel. It is a skilled work; not a user repairable one.

Flash 8 times
When it flashes 8 times it is indicating a possible Audio Protector circuit fault. this circuit is located on the "AU" board. You will probably have to purchase a new AU Board if you were to attempt to fix it yourself!
Good Luck!

Finally something different from the usual 'no picture' and 'stuck in standby' questions. Thank you.ONLY DO THIS IF YOUR TV
IS OUT OF WARRANTY, otherwise call the seller or manufacturer and
arrange a repair/replacement.Usually this is down to bad contact in one of the ribbon cables that connect the T-con panel to the screen driver boards at the top of your TV. All you need to do is remove ribbon cables (carefully, they are held by quite fragile plastic clips - you break the clips there is not reattaching it) and give the metal contacts a rub down with a piece of rubber - a pencil rubber will do fine [eraser for our American readers]. Detaching and reattaching the end attached to the screen will be hardest since it is in a slot not big enough for your fingers. Please TAKE HEED of the following safety instructions before attempting any repair:UNPLUG IT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING - sorry to shout but this is obviously a safety thing. You
will have to remove it from any stand or mounting and carefully lay it
flat on a clear surface (it is a large TV so have someone help you lower
it) on its face. Remember screens are very susceptible to cracking if
mishandled.Remove all the screws including the little hidden buggers
near the input sockets and in the centre usually. If the back won't
come off, don't force it but look again for a screw you might have
missed.Once the back is off DON'T TOUCH any of the components on the circuit boards.
Components like capacitors can still hold a charge when unplugged and
you yourself might have a little static going through you that could
discharge into the TV and scramble the firmware.
No picture, good sound
I would first check for defective capacitors on the inverter board that drives the backlight for the screen - assuming nothing at all shows up on the screen, no menus or On screen displays.
My tv turns on but no picture
is this ur old picture tube tv?if it is so then it must be due to accumulation of moisture in the tube which can be eaisly removed by any mechanic.
Sony KDL-46XBR4 - no picture or sound (black screen), the standby led blinks once then recycles each time the sony lights then goes out after 30 -50 mins the set comes on.
There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance. The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on, if there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, and use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up; if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault. It can also be related to WEAK ELECTROLYTIC capacitors as the value can reduce in time. Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections.
