The unit turns itself on
This is a shut down due to an error in the system and is related to the malfunction of the main drives or the optical units.
You need to check the loading and drive sections, check the power to the main board/ processing section. Some times a fault in the mother board can result in such a shut down and will require a flow chart check up.
Take consensus without tampering.
I have a TT1620 but
Out of the several hundred reviews I've found on this product, exactly two gave it a passing grade. The vast majority of complaints were the flaky/useless tuner, and the flaky/useless DVD writer. The writer issue seems to be mitigated somewhat by using Memorex blank media. The tuner issue seems to be a design flaw. The only work around I've found has been to use the other inputs and use a cable or satellite box for tuning.
Sorry, but it sounds like you got one of the many duds. Wish I could offer more encouragement.

Cd tray will not open
This is not a solution but...I started to have this happen to me and I found a work around. reapeatedly try - many many times and when you DO get it open, put a disc in and see if it wil open after that. Make it a disc you can afford to never see again, just in case. On my 1620, as long as a disc in is in the machine, it will open. If you close the door when it is empty, it will be VERY difficult, but not impossible.
last resort, open the machine and slip a disc in, then try.if possible.Unplug it first, of course.
Ps
My machine worked great for 2 years before this started to happen.
My DVD recorder is telling
This means the material you are trying to record is copywrite protected and can't be recorded. This can come from other DVD's or even certain brodcast programs are copywrited and therfore can't be recorded. I Have heard there ia abox you can hook to the DVD so it will remove thes copywrites but I don't know if they are still for sale. I hear someone tell me that he got his at Best Buy but that has been a few years back. If you have a computer and can go online, there is a program called DVD Fab decrypter that can remove the copywrites to most DVD's and you can make a copy on your computer to watch in your DVD. Just look up the DVD Fab Decrypter and check out their site. There is a cost for this program but I thought it was well worth it, I have made personal copies of many movies using this prgram.
I bought this unit as
Hello,
this is happening because the laser (lens) of the player is not sharp anymore. It takes a very sharp laser (lens) to record a DVD disc.
Get
a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does
the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you
would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one. Or,
to better clean the lens, loose/unscrew the player's cover, use a
cotton board to clean the surface of the lens completely. This will help to wipe off
dust on the laser (lens)
Good luck.
Do I need a special
