you need windows media player in and this will change every song you have to mp3 select the file and copy it into the memory card if the songs are protected just dont download from itune take them from cd and rip the music with media player

right click on the mp3 songs there will be one option as use as go on there will be ringtone option click on it then use as ringtone as u wish enjoy it.

ok my guess is that ur boyfriend has deleted the phone memory using the master reset umm on the left side there is a plastic slip flip it open and u have a memory card in there (depends how much the phone was (if it was cheep it wont) u should of got a little gray and blue card thing put ur memory card in the gray and blue card and if u have a card reader put it in the part where u put ur SD card in and it should come up as phone card i recommend not 2 use the cord because it is stupid

I have the same phone, and was getting the same "Insert Smartchip" message.

I seem to have fixed it by taking off the cover on the back of the phone (the part with the Sony Ericsson name on it), taking out the large battery, and gently pushing the little blue Smartchip back into its chamber with my fingernail, as it must have come loose somehow. The Smartchip "clicks" into the chamber when it is in there correctly.

I put it all back together, turned the phone off, then back on. When it came on, it worked again.

Well most phones have an option for a factory reset. Thats usually in the options or tools and settings menu of the phone. There is a possibility that the system memory is getting take up somewhere else and since the messages are the smallest data amount they are being mentioned. But I'm also not sure if older devices make that differentiation or not. Other than that, you may be able to find a replacement model online or you will have to upgrade because your phone is the point where it is just failing due to age.

Have you tried powering the phone off and removing the battery? Cleaning the charging contacts on the phone and the charger? Inspect the charging port to make sure there wasn't any damage from the fall. Then restart the device.
