Everything works except it won't

Hi,

This does not seem to be a magnetron problem. The Fan would still work even magnetron would be at Fault. There could be a humming noise and the oven won't heat at all.

The indications that you mentioned above led me to believe that either it is Faulty Fan Motor or Faulty Fan Blades. If there is a noise, it is more often Fan Blade. However, if there is no noise and the fan did not turn, it seems to be a Fan Motor.

Regarding replacement, it depends on person to person. It is not possible for me to comment on it. I could tell you a generic procedure and then you could take a decision.

The Procedure is :-

http://www.partselect.com/microwave+replace-fan-motor+repair.htm

The above diagnosis is based on the information you gave and you need to Inspect, Test and then order the fan motor.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The microwave will not heat the food

Yes - please buy a new one.
Unfortunately microwaves have 2 positions - working or dead!.
The cost to resurrect from the dead is all out of proportion with the cost of buying a new one which will have at least a 12mths guarantee

Does not heat

There are two things that could be wrong, an inline fuse inside the microwave could be blown or the magnetron (the part that heats the food went bad)
Parts can be found on repairclinic.com
Let me know if you have any further questions and how this works out for you.

I replace my light bulbs underneath the microwave,

If they are halogen types, oils from the skin will shorten their life. You should never touch them with bare skin.

If someone slams the door (a nono!) while the lights are no, that can shorten their life or blow them right away.

If they are left on for hours at a time, that will reduce the number of days they will last.

I would recommend a good quality replacement (not made in China if possible!) from a home improvement center such as Lowe's, Home Depot, etc., as opposed to the grocery store types.

Check the plug. If the vault is 110v or 220v etc.

If the plug seems to be right, but still not
working, you should buy a new one
with a good name brand you can trust.
It's better than paying for repairs and future repairs.

Fan on microwave

The "hood fan thermal cutout" is designed to turn on the hood vent exhaust fan if the stove top temperature gets too high.

If that fan comes on and stays on, the hood fan thermal cutout may have shorted, needing to be replaced, or its driving relay on the control board may be shorted.

If that's the case, we regularly repair such control panel assemblies nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

this should not occur since all the electronic are sealed

however, if you use you microwave a lot for things like making potatoes, pop corn, boiling water or anything else that creates a lot of steam you have have saturated the surface electronic

Try leaving the door open in a warm and dry location for 4- 6 hours
Depending on where you live you can also leave it outside

Then test the microwave again
If concern is still present you will need the electronics repaired

Timer counts down but turntable won't spin and fan

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or perhaps even the Power Supply. or a fault that is shutting the system down for safety reasons You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man. Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.
