Very simple question for those who know... How do you remove the ceramic cooktop from the unit to perform maintenance? I have a burner that won't turn off and two "hot burner" indicator lights that stay on all the time.
grouch, kill the power to the cooktop. You are going to have to remove the mounting brackets from undernieth and push the cooktop up. After it's up from it's installation position remove the side and back screws holding the top to the botom. Remove the burner knobs and it should come apart. Sounds like you have a bad burner switch. I just installed a new cooktop. Th burners work fine. The fan does not come on when I use the switch. I checked the power to the unit to see if there was a wire for the fan that I missed. I also checked the wire connection to the fan. All of those seem fine. Tom
there are 4 wires for that red white black and green sure you didnt miss a wire

I have a new Jenn-Air JED8430 downdraft cooktop.
I am confused how to connect wiring.
Cooktop come with 4 copper wires: white, red, black, green.
Manual says neutral of this unit is grounded to the framethrough the green grounding wire. Connect the white neutral to the service neutral.
I have (2) -40amp circuit breakers - I assume this is (2)- 120v combined together to make 240V, not certain.
Wire from breakers in cabinet has only 3 wires, a black, a black with red strip, and a silver colored ground - I believe this is Aluminum wire, definatly not copper.
how does this get connected, Is it black/red stripe to cooktop red; black to cooktop black; I am really confused on ground; Is it ground to green and also white together?
Thanks,

THE GLASS TOP ON OUR DOWNDRAFT STOVE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND I WANT TO ATTEMPT IT MYSELF.. CAN YOU PROVIDE THE STEPS I NEED TO REMOVE THE EXSISTING TOP AND HOW TO REPACE THE HEATING ELEMENTS SCREWED INTO THE TOP ETC..THANKS IN ADVANCE
the glass top replacemnt is a pretty straightfoward task, a matter of unscrewing one and repalcing it wiht anew one. after ordering new top its a matter of lookin g at eh new top to see which screws would need to be removed from old. hardest part about job will be youll need to do disconnect the downdraft from the venting ,and pull unit up from the counter inwhich it is installe.< not difficult but cumbersome and awkward to manuver. check abd verify full model and serail number and cal manufacture for correct part umber. may cast anywhere fom 200-400 dollars depending on model

We are noticing for the first time this year a cold-air draft coming through the downdraft grill on our Jenn air cooktop (the cooktop is several years old). We had deck work done this summer (the deck is adjacent to the kitchen where our downdraft vent may exit, although I'm not certain of that) and wonder if the exterior vent had a "flapper" cover on it that may have been removed. The deck is ground level, so impossible to see underneath. Any thoughts on how to eliminate the cold air draft?
the only way is to block off/check the flapper., if your not going to use for the winter you can disconnect the vent from under the cabinet temporaily and close off there till you can gain access to check outside grill

Broke my glass .. Have new top.
How do I remove the glass and install the new one?
First, you have to pull out the cooktop from the counter and remove the knobs.
Next, there are hex screws around the perimeter - do not remove the lowest ones on the front and the back (they hold the tray that the burners sit in) or the ones on the bottom (they help to hold on the blower assembly).
The final trick are two screws that are located in the downdraft plenum - there's one on each side (you don't have to remove the two in the back or the front - those are for small covers only).
The glass should lift out.
When putting the new glass in, remember that the plenum walls fit on the inside of the glass (you won't see the top of the steel).

Besides someone sitting on top of the stove, what else can cause the glass to actually crack. The crack traveled, but did not hit any of the other burners. Is this repairable or should I just go and buy a new stove?
Hello
Welcome to Fixya
My name is Huum,
You can replace the smooth top !.
But I will tell you not to spend more than half the price of a new stove. How old is the stove and what's the model number!
Waiting your response.

I wish to replace the solid surface electric cooktop with a gas burner model. The cooktop does not seem to be secured to the granite countertop with any mechanical fasteners yet I can not budge the unit when I push from below. What could be holding it down? Any suggestions on what the installers may have used to stick it down with may help in finding a solvent or other means to release it from its mooring.
alot of installers will use a silicone glue to "seal" the unit to the countertop. what happens is that means you cant get it out without cutting the glue off first.
it could also be that the unit is very tight in the countertop.
also did you remove the "hold down" screws from underneath the unit first??? there should be a screw on each side below the unit.
one more thing... do you have a gas line under your counter? if not be sure you can get a gas line to it before you try to remove the old unit. most homes have a finished ceiling under the kitchen and it would be almost impossible to install a new gas line if its not already there.

I have an older GE Stove top burner that only works on high
This is for the glass top units. well i'm not sure if your problem is with your large or small single burner or the large expandable burner. If it's the large or small single burner replace the burner and if it the expandable also replace the burner. If you have a coil burner replace the infinite switch. Good luck hope this helps you.

A metal pot lid was set on top of the ceramic cook top. Moisture was on the lid and it is stuck to the cook top. It will not move at all. How do I remove it without damaging the cook top? Should I turn on the heat.
In case anyone else encounters this problem here's what
worked for me. I had this happen last night and came here
searching for answers. It did not unloosen on it's own
after being left overnight. Finally this morning I came up
with something that worked for me. Shoot the lid all
around with a hairdryer and use a towel to keep seeing if
it has loosened up enough to move. After a few miuntes of
spraying it with the heat it stared sliding around and then
came up.
