How do I replace light bulb on my Jenn-Air microwave?

Hi.

You will need to partly disassemble the oven by removing the outer cover held by screws (the cover part 2 on the first diagram). once there you will see the bulb hand side, located on the right (the bulb is part 6 in second diagram).

Before disassemblying the appliance disconnect power, by tripping circuit breaker or unplugging the power cord.

Here the replacement part for the model JMC9158AAS, listed in title: PS391758 .
Diagrams below are also for Jenn-Air JMC9158AAS.

If you have a different model, use the links listed here: Where do I find parts and diagrams for my appliance?

Here the diagrams. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Diagram 2:

Unless you are a technician or a trained DIYer, better ringing the number listed on the owners manual to call service support. A badly assembled microwave will be dangerous for your health. The capacitor inside the microwave can also release dangerous discharge, take care and observe safety prescriptions while disassembling.

I have a Jenn-Air JMC9158BAS

Well there obviously appears to be a significamt short circuit fault inside the casing somewhere.
I recommend that you do not try to start it up any more since it may just cause further damage to the unit or even yourself.
You should simply unplug the power cord from the wall and post a note on the machine so no one else tries to use it either for now.

You said the unit was over 2 years old so I assume the warranty is already expired.
If you are comfortable with basic tools (screwdriver and voltmeter) and basic electrical safety then it is possible to disassemble the unit to get a better look at what is going on inside and where exactly the problem might be.

Most microwaves have the same basic components.

The high voltage magnetron and power supply which generates the microwaves is usually located in the lower right area towards the rear of the unit inside the case.

The control circuits are usually located right behind and below the display in the case.

The cooking area light bulb is on the right side inside the case, visible through the little grate from inside the cooking compartment.

There is ususally a ventilation fan accessible from the underside of the unit via an access hatch.

And some models have a removable turntable with the associated drive mechanism in the base section.

Judging by the location you described, it could be a significant fault on the power supply or magnetron or just a loose / bare wire on the fan or light bulb circuit rubbing on the case.

Did the thing only spark when you turned the microwave on to cook or did it spark when you just opened the door too since the light comes on just by opening door?

Let me know if you are comfortable opening up the unit and visually troubleshooting / looking for scorch marks / loose wires. If you are, then I will provide you with additional instructions.

If you are not comfortable with this hands-on route then you might as well call a local electrician / appliance repairman or go shopping for a new one because the old one definitely needs some kind of immediate service.

Comment back here to this page with the above information and I will assist you further.

Thank you very much.

Joe.

The microwave won't turn on. it is off

You have to open it up and see if you can find the power fuse, usually a BUSS 15amp Slo Blo that protects the Microwave Tube from drawing too much current and causing a fire. These fuses degrade over time or some get through that are not quite 15 amps and blow.

My JMC9158AA microwave just lost all power. It is

Hi,
There are different diagrams available on this site, if you have any experience troubleshooting wiring then you may want to try it. There could be a few reasons for it to not turn on at all. But basic troubleshooting will help you decide whether repair or replacement is the best option for you:

Jenn-Air JMC9158AAS Microwave Convection Oven Convection

Well, if the microwave part or the magnetron isn't producing heat, then it is probably fried as long as everything else works fine such as the control panel and board. Basically the magnetron is the main cost of the unit and it is almost always cheaper to buy a new microwave rather than replace the magnetron even if you replace it yourself. Sorry to tell you this but you should just look for a new microwave. The magnetron for this unit if you choose to replace it rather than buy a new microwave is $168.00 and can be found at the following website link http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-JMC9158AAS-%3d%3di920194&PartID=920194 Let me know how this works out for you. I am seeking a template for re-installing my 2

Since you can't get a paper template for remounting your microwave, I can offer you my tips for doing this, as I've had to reinstall many of my customers microwaves, after they've done a kitchen remodel.

You can use the metal mounting bracket as your "new" template. Just unmount the micro and remove the metal bracket and you can then position it on the wall or under the cabinet where you are looking to mount the microwave. However, before you remove it from the wall, simply measure the distance from the edges at the top and both sides of the bracket, where it is presently mounted and you'll be able to easily remount it in a new location.

If you've already removed it from the wall, not to worry, simply place it on the back of the microwave and measure the distance from the edges of the bracket to the top and both sides of the microwave's canbinet edges. Allow for 3/16" additional distance and you should be able to then remount the bracket at the new location with ease.

Please remember that you want to get the bracket secured into a wall stud so it can hold the weight of the microwave once it's installed and fastened to the bracket. I also recommend that you use wall anchors at the side edges at both the top and bottom corners to help secure the bracket IF there are no wall studs behind the predrilled holes for mounting the bracket to the wall.

If you have trouble using the metal mounting bracket, you can always trace the entire bracket onto a piece of heavy paper or cardboard, but frankly, I find this unecessary and time consuming, since you've already got the mounting bracket right there with all the holes and such.

Also, don't forget to measure the location of the power cord at the top or back of the microwave and remember you'll need to drill a hole in order to be able to pass the cord thru the cabinet. If your microwave has screws at the top front edge that help secure it to the cabinent above it, again, simply measure the distance of these mounting locations from the sides and back of the microwave cabinet and drill holes thru the cabinet, using a drill bit that is twice the diameter of the mounting bolts. You should add washers to these bolts to help prevent the bolts from pulling thru the cabinet bottom.

Mounting a microwave is best done with at least two people, as holding it in place while someone else puts the bolts in it isn't easy to do by yourself. Also, it is much easier to do, when installing it over an existing range, if you move the range out of the way first, so you can stand under the microwave, instead of having to lean over the range while trying to install it. Not to mention the fact that should you drop the microwave, you'll not only damage it, but could destroy your range at the same time.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Jenn-Air JMV9186WS Microwave. I was replacing the vent grill and touched something behind the white cam that rotates when microwave is on and it blew. It has no power now. What could be done?

Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Laundry Dryers. Check the circuit breaker or if it has a 13 amp UK plug, check the fuse inside the plug. There may be a fuse on the the control board, but getting to it is not safe. https://www.fixya.com/support/r29874712-repairing_microwave_ovens ..
