I have a Dell Demision 3000 Series, it shows black screen when I try to reboot it displays adminstrator password required, I had this computer so long I dont know where to get the password.

first unplug all power from your computer. Next open the side panel of the desktop. Inside the computer you will see the motherboard. locate the battery ( round flat like a quarter size, silver color). Carefully ( very carefully) remove it. Wait 10 seconds and reinstalled it. This will reset all your cmos or bios setting to factory setting including deleting your password.

Can faulty Capacitors cause this PC to just start DRAGGING slow, even on a FRESH install?

It most assuredly can, and a fresh install will not help, if that is the problem. What makes you think it is faulty capacitors?

No sound on computer

Hello, Exit all programs and then re-boot the computer first to see if the sound returns. If you hear the start up sound, things are probably working. Here is a link to the Dell support page to investigate further: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/dimension-3000/manuals

How can I change the password on my computer?

Robin Guzy, You will need to start the computer and tap the F2 key to enter the bios. Tab to where it reads the diskette drive and choose to disable the diskette drive. If you have a diskette drive you will need to replace it. Not many uses for diskette drives these days. For the password, you will need to try and remember the password or use a password recovery disk. This disk would have been created by you. If you did not create a password recovery disk you are going to either format and reinstall Windows or search the internet for programs that will recover your password. Type password and I have replaced the battery in my computer. The message I am receiving on the screen is Diskette drive 0 seek failure.

For the diskette drive 0 seek failure, does the computer skip past this error without difficulty ? If it does, then you may ignore it. It is caused probably by your replacing the battery having reset the BIOS which is thinking now it should find a floppy disk to boot from. If you haven't a floppy disk, or have floppy disk drive you will get this message. I do, but I ignore it. When you power up, you could try entering the BIOS setup, by pressing for example, the esc, F1, F2 or F8 keys - for your model I don't know which, you may find out from the internet, your manuals, or the Dell website/help or support - repetitively before the computer starts, ( from Dell support - "You can enter the system BIOS or Setup on a Dell PC by pressing F2 at the Dell loading screen").and somewhere the BIOS setup there should be the boot order change this to CD first (no CD inserted unless it is bootable), then USB if available (no media USB inserted, some USB devices are ok), the HDD. You should not set HDD first because this will give you big problems if it goes wrong and you need to boot from somewhere else. Put floppy disk after HDD and the message will disappear. I don't know about the password issue. I suggest you contact Dell support on this topic. How do I run a set up program

Generally, one enters the BIOS Setup screen by pressing either F2 or Del. There is usually a message on the bottom of the first boot screen that indicates what button is correct for that model. Looking further into the details that you have given, it seems that your CMOS battery has died, so you will need to replace that. (This is what is causing the "Time of Day Not Set" message most likely.) You can get the appropriate battery at Radio Shack (if nowhere else) for about $5 or $6.

My Dell computer is acting up.

You do not have to 'remove' all of your programs first....that is both time-consuming and, if one of them is causing it....likely to fail to resolve the issue since the program is broken. There is a much simpler way to remove all programs that did not come with your PC. Go to the Dell support site for that Model http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04?c=&l=&s=bsd See if it will 'detect my product'. If not, you will have to manually go through the 'select a product' steps to drill-down to your specific model. Go to the 'downloads' section and get the Manual for your PC. In it you should find instructions for a 'Factory Restore' or Recovery, (NOT the same thing as a System Restore.) This will put your Hard drive back to the state it was when first sold, (this assumes that the 'recovery' partition is still intact and that the drive itself is mechanically working well enough to complete that task.) Two things to consider : 1. by performing those steps - you WILL lose all user data now present on the hard drive. 2. If you suspect the Hard drive to be sick, then performing the above steps may kill it dead prior to completion, and you STILL lose all of your data. So make sure you at least try to back-up your data first !

Video controler driver

What's your question? I assume you mean where do I get the driver, but you really need to be less restrictive (or lazy) with the details of what you are asking. In any case, if it's the driver you need, go to Compaq, go to their support page, put in your model, put in your Operating System, and look through the list of drivers. It should be there.

What is windows default password

windows does not have any default password. You can chose to give an account a password or not, but it is up to you to make one yourself. If you forgot your password, perhaps if it was not that long there would be a tool on the net, to find it, but I'm not sure this is legal. By resetting the password, I'm afraid you owe the data saved in that account. Success

"My Dell" will not Install

I am not sure I understand your problem. If the PC was working until you got errors and try to use an installation disk and got some errors this could be cause by a defective disk. I don't know how much you know about PC's but if you could download a live CD (mainly Linux e.g ubuntu) this will run out of your DVD drive. It will mean your PC is OK but the drive is not. Anyone that can lend you a HD any size but same type. IDE or SATA and try the installation disk again if good, buy a new HD.

Why does my new Dell Inspiron show a black screen on startup?

If this boots up and works fine then it is just that your back ground is set to be black instead of blue. That can be adjusted in the settings on the monitor itself.
