Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop - Page 2 Questions & Answers
How do I run a set up program
Generally, one enters the BIOS Setup screen by pressing either F2 or Del. There is usually a message on the bottom of the first boot screen that indicates what button is correct for that model.
Looking further into the details that you have given, it seems that your CMOS battery has died, so you will need to replace that. (This is what is causing the "Time of Day Not Set" message most likely.) You can get the appropriate battery at Radio Shack (if nowhere else) for about $5 or $6.
"My Dell" will not Install
I am not sure I understand your problem. If the PC was working until you got errors and try to use an installation disk and got some errors this could be cause by a defective disk. I don't know how much you know about PC's but if you could download a live CD (mainly Linux e.g ubuntu) this will run out of your DVD drive. It will mean your PC is OK but the drive is not. Anyone that can lend you a HD any size but same type. IDE or SATA and try the installation disk again if good, buy a new HD.
My Dell computer is acting up.
You do not have to 'remove' all of your programs first....that is both time-consuming and, if one of them is causing it....likely to fail to resolve the issue since the program is broken. There is a much simpler way to remove all programs that did not come with your PC.
Go to the Dell support site for that Model
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04?c=&l=&s=bsd
See if it will 'detect my product'. If not, you will have to manually go through the 'select a product' steps to drill-down to your specific model. Go to the 'downloads' section and get the Manual for your PC.
In it you should find instructions for a 'Factory Restore' or Recovery, (NOT the same thing as a System Restore.) This will put your Hard drive back to the state it was when first sold, (this assumes that the 'recovery' partition is still intact and that the drive itself is mechanically working well enough to complete that task.) Two things to consider : 1. by performing those steps - you WILL lose all user data now present on the hard drive.
2. If you suspect the Hard drive to be sick, then performing the above steps may kill it dead prior to completion, and you STILL lose all of your data.
So make sure you at least try to back-up your data first !
Slow pc and no sound icon
I believe you had too many files on your computer. I advise to run deframenting your computer every week to speed up your computer and also run scan disk for error to fix some problems. Just go to program files>accessories>system tools>disk defragment. If still slow I advise to reinstall your operating system or ever upgrading it to windows 7 or vista.
Dell 3000 beeps twice no video after blue dell logo.
The most possible cause is that RAM isnt attached properly on motherboard, it might loosen up sometimes. So just try to check your motherboard, pull out the RAM carefully from the RAM SLOT & attach it precisely. Hope it will work....
Video controler driver
What's your question? I assume you mean where do I get the driver, but you really need to be less restrictive (or lazy) with the details of what you are asking. In any case, if it's the driver you need, go to Compaq, go to their support page, put in your model, put in your Operating System, and look through the list of drivers. It should be there.
Blue Screen with error 0x000000ED
This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:
- Your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and the following conditions are true:
- You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
- The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.
- The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.
The purpose of this error message is to prevent the following two things:
- Potential data loss caused by using an incorrect IDE cable for the faster UDMA modes. An IDE cable is a kind of cable used to connect storage devices, such as hard disks, inside a computer.
- Continued access to a drive on which the file system is damaged
Some things that you should know before you try this solution
loadTOCNode(4, 'resolution');
- If the file system is damaged, you can use chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. However, if you use the chkdsk /r command, you may lose some data.
- You will need the Windows startup disks or the Windows installation disk. If you do not have them, contact the computer manufacturer for help in obtaining the disks.
- You will need the administrator password to complete the steps.
To repair the volume, follow these steps:
- Start your computer by inserting the Windows startup disks or the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive.
- When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option.
- If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
- Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.
Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
- After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.
If this procedure does not work, repeat it, but type
fixboot instead of
chkdsk /r in step 5.
Note:
If your UDMA hard disk is connected to the controller with a 40-wire UDMA cable, replace the cable with an 80-wire cable.
In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options, such as USB Support.
What is windows default password
windows does not have any default password. You can chose to give an account a password or not, but it is up to you to make one yourself. If you forgot your password, perhaps if it was not that long there would be a tool on the net, to find it, but I'm not sure this is legal. By resetting the password, I'm afraid you owe the data saved in that account.
Success
"My Dell has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
If you know of the software that is causing the issue, such as when you try to launch a program, uninstall it and then reinstall. Updating the program or using the installer to repair the installation are other options. If you are unsure of the issue, you can try restoring to a previous version with System Restore or contact your local Dell support. Please make sure you are free of viruses, spyware and have all your Windows updates installed.
