When i start my computer

Possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS ( operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the back up( CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. If not the OS is a suspect.

Now before this you can open the internet options in the browser and clean all the cookies, temporary internet files, defragment the drives and RESTORE the PC to an earlier set date. You can use a registry cleaner like Advanced system care. Download from the site and check you system for corrupt files. Also use a good antivirus software which is active to keep your system performing without an attack on the OS. Remove all unnecessary programs installed which you do not use all the time and clean up the drives. This will free up the space and make your system faster. If there is no response but the PC tends to work slower and occasionally hanging when a program is being executed then you might have to install the OS once again. Install the OS and then an antivirus before the drivers of the PC is installed.

Thank You for using Fixya

Very easy to do. Just remove one of the side panels or maybe removing both will make your job a lot easier, now you should see some little plastic hooks that come inside of the tower from the front cover, just press them and the front cover should come right off. To reinstall, just press front cover against the holes on the tower.. Let me know if this answers your question and good luck..

My computer crashes a lot. How do I fix?

You may run or perform Disk Error Checking(This is for Windows XP SP3):
* Chkdsk (Chkdsk.exe) is a command-line tool that checks volumes for problems. The tool then tries to repair any that it finds. For example, Chkdsk can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors.

** How to run CHKDSK at the command prompt:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  3. Use one of the following procedures:
  • To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
  • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

  • Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

  • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.
  • Once done with chkdsk r, run FIXBOOT and press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

No, it doesn't. The Dell Dimension 4600 doesn't come with wireless. If you want to add wireless connectivity, you will need a Wi-Fi PCI card, like the following:

    My monitor gives 16-bit color

The monitor has no influence here - something is wrong with your video card: either its driver is missing (or corrupted) or the video chip has failed.
Uninstall all the drivers for the video(except the generic VGA one), from Programs and Device Manager
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/f/open-device-manager-windows-7.htm
and reboot several times then go to Dell
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
select your pc and get the correct driver.
If that doesn't fixes it then the video chip has failed, you will need to buy a new video card.

    I have a 4600 series

The video chip is failing. If you have the original configuration, with the onboard chip you could try to add another AGP video card, but since the video chip is part of the northbridge that isn't good news for the rest of the motherboard - it is dying also.
I think it's time to buy a new pc, or at least a new motherboard.

    How to restore to factory

there should be a sticker on your computer that looks like this, this will say your serial number that your computer will need to be activated with.
when you say "without CD," i assume you don't own a cd and need one. there are several ways to accomplish this without purchasing one retail, as you obviously already own the operating system. 1. torrent - download utorrent, then download the .torrent file, burn that .iso (disk image) to a DVD, then boot to the cd. 2. borrow a retail CD from a friend 3. if you are unable to do either, paypal me $5 and i'll burn you a disk and mail it to you. email me at [email protected] if you are interested in doing this.
i hope i helped. enjoy your 4th of july weekend
