The yellow lightcomes on when i tun on the power

Where in the sky? You alien life forms come down here, and ask these questions. I swear for the life of me..........................OH, I'M JUST KIDDING!1) Steady Amber light indicates a Power problem. 2) Blinking amber indicates a problem with an installed device. For number 1; do you have a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply; you can borrow for a test unit? Perhaps in a working computer? Also, same as above; Power unplugged to computer, Anti-Static Precautions followed; clean the inside of the computer out, with a can, or two of compressed air for computers. For number 2; did you recently upgrade any hardware components inside the computer?Suggest you remove all Ram Memory module/s ('Stick'), and clean their gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser.Remove the eraser dust with air, reinstall. For additional questions please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette

Add second monitor

well if you have the default setup then you most likely only have one display port thus you shall also need another video card or video spliter such as: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Female-Video-Splitter-Cable/dp/B003QN64YY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1346834961&sr=8-4&keywords=vga+splitterhowever do note that if your video card isn't up to the task something such as youtube videos may not play to smoothly so you might still end up needing another video card.

How to make dell 4600 wireless

well an easy way to do this would be to buy a cheap usb wifi adaptor such as this: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Wireless-Lan-Adapter-150Mbps/dp/B002XGDU9M/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1346834082&sr=1-10&keywords=usb+wifior a bit more reliable solution would be a wireless card such as this: http://www.amazon.com/802-11g-Wireless-WIFI-Adapter-Desktop/dp/B003OBHE60/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1346834141&sr=1-4&keywords=wireless+card but I do not recommend doing this yourself unless you know what you are doing.

My computer is infected with a worm. I think it is

Hi, Andy.

Reboot your system and continually press F8.

Choose Safe Mode

Login to your account or Administrator

Download, install and run Spybot (http://www.Spybot.com) and MalwareBytes (http://www.Malwarebytes.com)

If still a problem, I'd suggest accessing System Restore and roll back your system to an earlier date. Just note that your data will be rolled back as well.

Hope this helps.

My computer keeps shutting itself off.

It could be getting hot, and turning off to preserve the CPU. It could also have a power supply issue. In either case, it is not something that a non tech can fix. Youd need to have the motherboard inspected for any popped capacitors, and have your cooling system cleaned of all dirt and dust, then tested to ensure the fans are all working, and youd need to have the power supply inspected for any issues. A power supply will cost about 30 bucks. A replacement fan/cooling system is about 15, and a replacement board will be about 100-150, depending on where you get it. If you have to get the motherboard replaced, you are better off just replacing that unit with another one. You can find used dimension 4600s for about 80 bucks. You can then add your hard drive to it, wipe the new drive clean and use it for storage, and add your peripherals to the new, replacement machine.

No sound from my dimension 4600

If you have tried reloading the drivers for the onboard sound. You might need to check your settings on the computer. If this doesnt help your quickest way is to go out and buy a cheap sound card and install it.

Best of luck and have a happy and safe 4th of July!

I had to do a factory reset on my dell dimension

Use whatever computer you are using to reach FixYa.com to go to Dell.com, and click support. If the 2 computers are in different locations, write down the Service Tax number off the back of the dell, and take it with you. Also take a thumb drive with you that has at least 1 GB of free space. On the Dell Support page, type in the service tag number, and hit enter. Tell it you want drivers & downloads Tell it what version of windows you are using From the files selected, download all of them. Put them all on your thumb drive. Take the thumb drive to your Dell. Insert the thumb drive. Install the drivers one by one until one of them makes your network card work.

Cant enter bios on inspiron 560

AS SOON AS YOU PRESS the Power On button, start tapping on the F2 key.Tap in 2 second intervals. You may hear beeps as you are tapping on the F2 key. These are Stuck Key Error Code beeps. Ignore them. Why use this method? Because the window of opportunity to enter the BIOS Setup utility, goes by F-A-S-T.It is to easy to bypass this small window, after you see the Dell 'splashscreen'. (Dell logo)May I ask what you are doing in BIOS Setup, Charles?Post back in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette

How to open my Dell Dimension 4600 to install two

1) Computer off, and disconnected from power.

2) Disconnect all cables leading to your computer.

3) Lay your computer down on a table. Lay the right side towards table.
(I like to lay a clean, static free towel down on the table first, to prevent scratching the computer, or the table)

4) You are now looking at the back of the computer, with the power supply fan to the Left side.

Look underneath, along the top edge of the computer case. There is a computer case cover release latch, on the Right side. Pull the Cover Latch to the Right.

Now pull the side cover towards you. (Towards the back of the computer.

Lay the side cover aside.

5) IMPERATIVE!
BEFORE you reach inside, or take the new Ram Memory sticks out of their protective, anti-static bags, TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case!

Your body carries Static electricity. Static can fry out your computer hardware components.
Touching the metal frame of the open computer case, will relieve your body of Static.

Should you get up, walk away, then return, TOUCH the metal frame again.

Refrain from handling Ram Memory sticks by their gold plated contact pins. (Bottom of ram stick)
You can handle the ram stick anywhere else, as the body of the ram stick is coated with a see-through plastic.

6) Dell Support > Dell Dimension 4600 Series > Manuals > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/index.htm

A) Left-click on - Removing the Computer Cover

B) Go back to this main menu, and Left-click on -
Removing and Installing Parts

Now Left-click on Memory.

Not trying to insult your intelligence, but if you have never installed Ram Memory before:

Your computer uses DDR Sdram ram memory modules, ('Sticks')
(Double Data Rate - Synchronous Dynamic Ram Access Memory)
A DDR Sdram module has on Notch on the bottom.

The Notch looks to be centered upon a cursory glance.
It is Not.
The Notch is over to one side a little.

(Actually a DDR Sdram ram memory module has 184 contact pins on the bottom.
92 on each side.
The Notch is located in-between Pins 40 and 41.
40 pins on one side of the Notch, 52 on the other side)

The Notch must be lined up correctly with the Locating Lug, in the bottom of the ram memory slot. The ram stick only goes in, in one direction.

There is a lock on each side of the ram slot. White in color, looks like an 'Ear'.
Dell's reference to a lock is 'Securing Clip'.
Put your thumbs on the top of each lock on a ram slot, and gently push down, and out.
The lock pivots to the outside.

When the locks pivot, the ram stick is raised up out of the ram slot.
Upon closer examination, you will note a small slot at the bottom of each lock.

The bottom corners of the ram stick, fit down in these slots.
Set the ram stick down in the slots of the locks, Notch lined up with the Locating Lug.
Push down on the outside top corners of the ram stick.

When the ram stick is fully seated, the contact pins will be down in the ram slot, and the locks will be seated against the sides of the ram stick.
You will notice that each lock has a 'Bump' on it. This Bump lines up with a Notch on the side of the ram stick.

The bump must be in the notch, for the ram stick to be fully seated.
Usually you will hear a satisfying 'Click - click', as the lock's bumps click into the notches.

IF, the ram memory slots that you are installing ram memory in, have never been used before, they may be tight.
You are installing new ram memory modules.
Makes the fit even tighter.

Sometimes it's a 'Pee Picker,' to get those ram memory modules to go in.
Makes beads of sweat pop out of your forehead!
Other times they slip right in with No problem.
Thought I would warn you in advance.

If I understand correctly, do I understand you are installing TWO - 1GB sticks of DDR Sdram?

[DDR Sdram at 333MHz {PC2700}, or DDR Sdram at 400MegaHertz?
{PC3200}

1) If the ram memory modules that you are installing, are larger than the ones already installed, install the 1GB ram modules in DIMM 1, and DIMM 2, ram memory slots.

DIMM 1 is Slot 1.
Slot is the ram memory slot that is closest to the Processor.
The Processor reads Slot 1, First.

DIMM 1, and DIMM 2, (Slot 1 and Slot 2), are a matched pair of ram memory slots.
They are in the same Channel.

I replaced the dvd drive with a gdr8162b and added a sony cd/rw Crx217e-ds this computer is a dell 4600 cant get neither of the drives to work

If these drives are IDE deives then check the jumper settings on these drives. The jumper setting for master (MA) and Slave (SL)If one of these drives is on the same data cable as the hard drive the the jumper setting for this drive MUST be set to Slave (SL) because the hard drive will be jumpered as Master (MA).If both of the drives are on the same data cable and the data cable is plugged into the second IDE controller then one of the drives MUST be jumpered as Master drive and the other as Slave drive.

When turning on computer, from start up or windows screen, it goes straight to blue error screen saying,

bluescreen can be caused by a number of things

a bad driver loose or faulty lead or not having enough ram

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices

if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver

if you can see your usb device but its not working scroll to Ports(Com&Ltd) right click to update driver

if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it

or you might have to download one

you might not have enough RAM random access memory not having enough will cause your computer to run over its maximum limits and can cause the blue screen of death and hang and cause memory dumpsmake sure your ram modules have a dust free secure seating and the CPU central processing unit has thermal pasteif you dont want to install more ram uninstall some unnecessary programs a bad or faulty motherboard lead or its connection if its a flat 40 pin ide it will be the first to failmake sure all leads have a dust free secure connections hope it helps
