It is a known problem with some high def connectors not working properly. The following should be checked before concluding there is a problem
1. Ensure you have your TV tuned to the right output station for as your ps3 is connected.(for example you cannot have your ps3 connected to the second set of av ports on your tv and your tv is on av1, it has to be on av2)
2. Cross-check the functionality of your ps3 using the default av cables that come with it so as to know if your cable or console is faulty.
3. Ensure that you high-def cables are properly connected.
If all the above prove abortive, you have to see a repairer to check-up your ps3 or tv

it is possible,make sure all your vents are claer of dust,use a hoover all around it and make sure you have plenty of room for it to get air

i have the same problem and it wont work....once it detected it, but then asked for a passkey.....my headset works fine for my samsung phone...i have the same problem

PS3's (all models) are known to have a high failure rate when it comes to there optical drives. Due to the fact that it reads neither medium i would say that the drive (along with the lense and reading eye) has failed entirely. The only solutions are to buy a new one, or if its under warranty call tech support and find out who to send it to for repair

If it does this on all your games you need to replace the laser. If it just does it on this game try cleaning it off.

Some people have had luck by unplugging the cord from the back of the console, then plugging it back in, then it turns back on fine....other possibilities could be worse, that it could be a YLOD (your PS3 is dead :-( which I hope is not the case).....There are a couple of YLOD "fix" videos on YouTube, though I can't vouch for how good they are, but may be worth a try if nothing else works. Is your game system getting plenty of ventalation so it won't overheat? If it turns back on in 15 or 20 minutes, then this might be the problem and you might consider moving your system to a cooler location (never stack it on or under any other devices like a DVD player or another game console). The final option I can think of is to try calling Sony at 1-800-345-SONY and talk to someone about it. When you get the automated menu at first, press 1 to select ps3, then hit 0 to speak to an agent and then 1 again for the ps3. That should get you to an actual live person to talk you through more possible problems and solutions. Good luck :-)

How to Access Playstation Recovery Menu

1. Turn off Playstation®3.

2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

this could be as a result of software failure. the best known way by which this can be tackled is by resetting the system or console. here are the steps to take
Be sure to backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to sony.
1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).
4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).

Hi this is a very common problem and its to do with the ps3 over heating,
try the following.
leave it off and unplugged for an hour
check all air vents are free from fluff and dust and vac if needed.
make sure the ps3 is not being used whilst its on carpet
make sure the ps3 is not sitting on top of another electrical item such as dvd or sky box as this will cause it to over heat a lot quicker.
make sure its not wedged in a confined space it needs to have plenty of room around it to ensure cool air flow.

unplug all the leads from the back of the ps3 and the telly then plug them all back in, doing this removes any static that may have built up, then switch it on.

if after doing the above it still dont work then this indicates that either the gpu or cpu chip has over heated, if you have any warranty left take it back you need to check on the ps3 web site to see how old your ps3 is as this fault is covered by ps3 warranty for a couple of years but you need to check this.

now as for getting it repaired, well its a bit hit and miss i repair them myself and if it was an xbox 360 then i would say the chance of it working again is pretty high but as its a ps3 then these can be a bit hit and miss if the ps3 has over heated a lot and fried the cpu or gpu chip or both then the cost of repair would not be worth doing as it would be cheaper to buy a second hand ps3 or even a reconditioned one.

its not the kind of repair you can do yourself as you need to know how to test the circuit board to find out if the chips have been damaged.
the only other option you have is selling it for spares, i buy the damaged ones for spare parts but you wont get much for it as it is, i mean you could pay for the repair and you may get charged even though it cant be fixed,

i always say to my customers that if i cant repair it i will only charge for the parts i used which is nothing but if i do fix it then i charge them the cost of the repair, usually if its beyond repair they let me buy it off them as i pay more than they would get from ebay as they sell on their for about 30 quid with the problem you have got.

This is a problem occurring in all the play station 3 consoles....... this is mainly because of the poor quality of the disc,.....as a result it leads to the damage of ur PS3 lens..............use good original discs........the heating effect is due to the long usage of pirated discs ...

this is commonly referred to as the yellow light of deat(YLOD) by playstation 3 users. it is due to the fact that you kept your system in a choked up environment and as a result the system has over-heated. also it could be that you have used it excessively for a prolonged period of time. you may search online and find a few videos or write-ups to help you solve this problem but more than half end up damaging you console permannetly as this requires you to do one of the following
keep your console in a well ventilated area for some time(like an hour) if this doesn't work, you have to call sony or take it to a repair shop.

hello have you tried resetting it take power lead out of the back then reinsert it back in while doing this press and hold standby button on the front of the ps3 you will hear 1 bleep the 2 short bleeps after the short bleeps release the button it should reset fingers crossed
