It's not unheard of for a router to fail. When you connected the computer to the Modem, did you use the same cable that was connected to the router? Does your internet connection require a username and password? If so, is that configured in your modem, or the router? If not in the modem it must be the router.

the router is not giving IP. restart the router to solve the issue.
from ipod delete this wifi network by right click and forget network. connect again.

You may be able to get an external antenna for it; check where the existing antenna connects to see if it can be removed. If not, raising the elevation of the access point will help. Also, be sure to place the access point away from thick walls or metal.
pin number is never put on the unit. if u need a pin number its in the users manual/set up manual if u never changed the origanl pin upon setup. on the back of the router there should be a reset button pn sized of course which will set it back to manufacturers settings which will then take the origanl manufacturers pin number which is in the setup manual

Go to settings and connection type and check maximum idle time is not highlighted! Sounds like it is timed to disconnect after a time limit from your description!
