try blowing out all of the dust from your laptop keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines. dust causes static which causes lots of problems with a computer and its parts or if this does not fix the problem click start control panel keyboard you can change your settings there or you might have uninstall the keyboard restart your computer then reinstall it and its drivers click start control panel keyboard hardware then properties you should see driver details, you will have options to update driver, roll back driver, uninstall make sure you have the driver for the keyboard before uninstalling the driver make sure the lead is good and has a secure connection diconnect the keyboard then reconnect it then reinstall the driver

as for the mouse click start control panel mouse you should see 4 tabs buttons, pointers, pointer options also hardware under hardware you can troubleshoot or select properties under driver you will have the options to update driver, rollback driver or uninstall and under hardware you can troubleshoot in xp hope this helps

Computer turns on.. no post.. no activity

First, disconnect the cables from the motherboard to the hard drive, optical drives and floppy (if your computer has one). Also remove any expansion cards that are installed. If your computer has a separate video card installed, remove that as well and let the motherboard use its integrated video. Of course, if the board doesn't have built-in video you can leave the video card in. What you want to do is remove anything that may be causing the motherboard not to start up properly.

Power up the computer with all that disconnected and see if it starts up and posts. If it does, one of those disconnected parts is holding the system board down. I have seen this happen because of bad drives or cards, and even once a bad data cable. You can then reconnect the pieces one at a time and try powering on the computer. When you reconnect the guilty part the computer won't start, and you'll know what you need.

If the computer still doesn't start with those parts disconnected, you have a bad power supply, RAM, processor or the motherboard itself. Remove the RAM and try starting. If the memory is causing the trouble, you should hear the BIOS beep error for bad or no memory. If that works, reinstall the RAM one stick at a time to determine which is causing the trouble.

If there's no response when you take out RAM, try substituting another power supply. Many times the supply isn't working properly even though the system comes on with the power switch. People often overlook a bad supply unless the system is totally dead.

If this all still doesn't get the system going, you probably need a system board. It's possible the processor is bad, but I see bad motherboards far more often. Usually capacitors start to go bad and the board no longer resets properly. Sometimes you can see failed ones with bulging or split tops. It's not usually worth the effort of trying to repair the board, unless it's a proprietary OEM board or a very high-end board.

Good luck tracking down the trouble, and thanks for using Fixya!

Where is jumper reset

The reset jumper is labelled JBAT1 (circled in red below). Pins 1+2 are jumpered/shorted right now, just turn the machine off, move the jumper over to short pins 2+3, wait 5-10 seconds, move it back to pins 1+2 and fire it back up. Have fun!
