This is unlikely to help. Firstly a clarification. Blu-Ray discs and DVDs are two different types of discs. A standard DVD drive, found in more computers, cannot play Blu-Ray discs. Firstly, insure that your computer has a BR drive. In the case of a desktop PC, there should be a logo on the front of the drive that will indicate. In the case of laptops and netbooks, the logo should be on the bottom of the device. Otherwise you may check the device's properties in the Control Panel to be certain.

As it is freezing so soon after switch on - it isn't even trying to boot, a disc is unlikely to be much help because there is a chance your hard drive died. I would remove the drive and use one of the inexpensive usb/hard drive adaptors with another computer to check the drive before doing anything else. If the drive is ok either the Windows is seriously corrupted or the laptop has a hardware problem. I never bother trying to repair Windows but back up what I want to save and format the drive and reload Windows and the other software. It is a lengthy job but it is the best way to clean the drive...

go into device manager and delete the drivers, it may ask you if you want to delete the drivers folder, do this as well. then reboot the laptop after its done. when it boots up. check the drive. and in device manager. then install the update. if has windows on drivers installed.

If you are trying to use Windows Media Player it's no wonder you can't watch them or you are having codec problems. Open up internet explorer and go to google. In the google search box type in "Download VLC Player". Look at the search results and look for www.videolan.org/vlc to download the player. VLC is free open source and it is a much better player with all the drivers and codec. It runs things that windows media player has a problem playing. Once you download and install it, go to the movie file you downloaded and Right Click on it and select the Open With option. If you don't see VLC listed in the Open With options, choose the option at the bottom that says Choose Program. Look for VLC in the program list. Choose VLC to play the movie and see what happens.

After hours of searching I finally found a fix: 1. Remove the battery 2. Remove the HDD 3. Removed the RAM to make the solder points, marker 'J1' on the motherboard visible 4. I then used a paper clip and sticky tape to join these solder points 5. With the solder points joined, insert one stick of RAM and turn the machine on 6. Wait until the laptop is in a post BIOS state (past the screen where you can press F2 for setup and where the logo shows) and remove the paper clip. This has to be removed while the laptop is still on. 7. Turn off computer, press F2 to enter BIOS and you should find there is no password. Repeat the above steps if you find this doesn't work.
