REGZA 42HL167 Won't turn on

the yellow LED light blinks three times repeatedly; have tried all suggestions in the troubleshooting section of the manual

I found it!!

In my case, the 42HL167, the CPU pcb (most commonly referred to the SEINE PCB) is having issues booting and just isn't starting up.

My friend gave me his 42HL167 after this problem started after a power event during a storm and I managed to fix it by reloading the firmware.

I posted instructions on my website at:

http://www.benjammin.net/www/pages/techtips/Toshiba-Regza-42HL167.html

Once I figured out some of the facts, it was a breeze...

I agree -- it seems like a design flaw. What cracks me up is that the places I called for a replacement SEINE PCB require the core (the bad PCB). Well GEE, why is that!?!? EASY FIX MAYBE?

It was. Too easy. Shamefully easy.

Our 2006 Toshiba Regza 42LZ196 LCD 1080p Cinema Series Pro just up and shut off, and now has the red LED where it says 'timer rec' blinking 3 times, error code?

I did notice a grey vertical line down the center for the last few months.

Warranty expired 5 months ago, of course.

Thanks for any info.

Try setting tv to channel 3 or channel 4, this should coincide with the back of satellite box (a little black switch with a 3 or 4). then switch channels with your satellite box. I would recommend using another output off the satellite box to feed the other tv, a splitter loses some signal quality an can go bad as well. get a long rca cable to feed tv!

Toshiba Regza 47HL167's screen has gone completely black

Well, not long ago, my wife and I were watching House when our screen suddenly went completely black. There was no discernable noise or popping sound or pinprick of still visible light...it simply went completely and utterly black, however we're still able to hear the sound perfectly. The tv is only 14 months old, purchased from Newegg.com, and the manufacturers one year warranty expired only a short time ago so I'm hoping against hope that there's some type of explainable repair though in truth I somehow doubt it. At first I tried cyling through the channels and through the various inputs thinking that perhaps it was a problem with our satellite but I was still unable to see any type of picture..still the pure black. However the sound was still active. Afterwards, I unplugged the set and all the connections to it and let it sit five minutes before plugging the tv (minus all video/audio cable connections) back in and trying to turn it on. The red timer/rec light located on the front right lower portion of the tv blinked red a few times and when I pressed the power button the blue tv light located next to it turned on and again I was met with sound but no picture. I've now unplugged it yet again and am going to wait until tomorrow morning (roughly 8 hours) before plugging it in again in hopes that it will somehow be miraculously fixed. I should mention that there's been a thunder/lightning storm during this entire time however there was no surge in power and the tv and cable connections were plugged into a 21000 jule power surge protector. *shrugs* I have no clue what to do fellas and I'm sure as hell not looking forward to missing the NCAA tourny or dishing out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a LCD barely over a year old. It's frustrating to say the least. If anyone has any suggestions or even better an outright fix I'll be ten different types of grateful.

Also have a 42" Toshiba and had the same problem, then had issues moving the channel order while some channels were set to skip.

What I ended up doing was retuning the tv. Then went through the channel list (Menu -> Setup -> DTV Setting -> Channels) and changed the number of the channels I didn't want to 1000+ (using the red button, ie 1001, 1002, 1003...). This in itself does not change the channel order, but when I then move these channels to the end of the channel list and because they are numbered numerically I can be sure I don't miss any.

Next I went to the channel options (Menu -> Setup -> DTV Setting -> Channel Options) and marked all the channels I'd moved to the end of the list as channels to skip and locked. This does not remove the channels from the EPG but it does move them to the end of the list and when scrolling with the channel +/- buttons these channels will not be selected.

Ideally I would also like to delete channels such as QVC etc altogether and would love to know if anyone has a more effective solution to this issue.

Not my solution but a copy from another problem.  Rate me  =]

"The problem is with the signal board. Basically, it is not allowing the power signal to go from the on button from the set or the remote to the TV. I am having the exact same problem with my 42" LCD Regza. Currently, if you are under warranty, Toshiba does not have these in stock. They will not have them available to send until early January. My TV has been at the repair shop since December 4th. I am very upset as I won't be able to watch the bowl games in HD. If your set is still under warranty then call Toshiba help line at 800-575-5469. You will need the model number of yout TV that is listed on the front of the owner's manual. They are:
27HL67
32HL67
32HL67U
37HL67
42HL67

The first number will be the giveaway as to which model you have. It is the size of your set. They will ask you to try a hard reset. (Hold pwer button down for 5 seconds until you see the yellow light go solid and go off.) This will most likely not work. If it does, you are lucky. I found that if you unplug the TV for an extened period of time, ie overnight, ity may come back on. It will eventually give out completely though. Better to get the problem addressed with the manufacturer. If you are not under warranty then I do not know what to tell you. Right now I am searching the internet to see if I can find this part to maybe purchase myself. Only if it is not too costly. If I find anything I will post here for all. If you have any questions, feel free to email me a [email protected] and I might be able to give you more details on your problem. Good Luck.

Power Switch on Side of Toshiba Regza 37XV635DB Broken - Solved

I just turned on my TV, which I have had for about 3 weeks and has been working fine. It would not come on, so I pressed it a few more times and I heard a rattling noise as something fell. I opened up the TV by taking all the screws labelled with an arrow on the back out.

I found that the contact pad between the exterior button and the switch had snapped off. I have recovered this and have glued it back in place. This is an inherant design fault; If you push the button all the way in, it will over-strain the contact pad. I had obviously done this repeatedly and it snapped.
Here is a very crude diagram of what is happening:

'''''''''' [_______
1 2 3

1 = Back of button
2 = contact pad
3 = Switch

If 1 goes in too far, it will snap 2 off.

To prevent this, Just push the button in until you hear the switch click. If you do break it, the solutions are:
1) Do what I have done
2) Do what I have done and hacksaw a small length (about 2mm in my case) from the back of the button so that contact pad cannot be bent.
3) Get it fixed by a professional preferrably under warranty.

Soultion 4) Toshiba provide excellent customer service, if this happens simply contact the help line/support supplied with your TV - they will advise you to take the TV back to store for an exchange.

Its not advisable to take the back off any electrical equipment unless your are a qualified electrician.

If you are connected to an HD cable box or satellite box via component cables, make sure they are firmly seated at each end.
