Gateway M465-E Notebook Questions & Answers
Reset bios password
If HDD has a password, it has nothing to do with the bios and it is useless.
Gateway m465e laptop will not turn on
When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust. Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.
M465-e has flashing blue light wont startup
Try removing the battery and disconnecting the power for a minute or so. Then re-install the battery and power cord and try booting it up again. If that doesn't work I'm afraid it's probably an issue with the motherboard. If in the unfortunate event the motherboard needs to be replaced, here are the instructions:
http://www.ehow.com/how_7498700_remove-motherboard-gateway-m465e-laptop.htmlLooks like boards range between $100 - $200 If it's not something you want to tackle yourself, expect labor to be about $100. Consider the age of the laptop and the cost of about $200-$300...some newer laptops can be had for that amount. (Especially with Black Friday sales going on.) Check microcenter.com
Freeze at startup
HelloIf you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card then they are probably the problem and can only be replaced by replacing the motherboard.Apart from that this seems to be a motherboard problem ,have you tried with only the battery and vice verca.Good luck
Bought a Gateway model M465-E
I'm sorry but I don't know how to reset your BIOS. But to get around your problem, you should be able to enter the boot menu to boot to the optical drive to install your OS.
In order to access the boot options on this notebook computer, press the F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startup process. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device.
To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer.
I just bought my Gateway
berrizzle,
If your Gateway has XP as the operating system your only chance is to use system restore; which works great. However the odds of their being a restore point save that far back is slim. You can try the earliest restore point save to see what will appear. You could also try calling Gateway and asking them to send you the restore CD; just tell them whatever they need to hear to get the CD. The lesson learned from this sale: do not ever buy a computer without it coming with its operating system CD! You just purchased the hardware, no software.
Since its for your son the best option is a full reinstall of a operating system, which would make it like new with nothing hiding for him to find. You can always buy an XP system CD online like at eBay for fairly cheap. Then you can reinstall the system if you ever need too. If you plan on doing a reinstall you need to make sure you read up on it online (it is fairly simple) and get the necessary drivers for your models internal comments from the Gateway web site under support>downloads and drivers.
I hope this will stear you in the right direction. If this helps please rate the answer, Thanks.

The power supply is putting our 21v no load no
I would say that your power supply died on you and in process drained your battery. So you probably need new one.If you can check that with other to be sure.Or your battery went bad and now is making mess. For this to check, take out battery and try to star without it. Good luck!
