If HP/Compaq cannot supply you with a recovery disc, then you can get around this.
Install Windows XP then download the device drivers for your model laptop and install them on your laptop. You can use a another computer with Internet access then copy and install them on your laptop.

get a VGA cord and connect it. after its connects just press enter enter enter until something shows up

Ok, first off if the printer is printing from other programs then do these two things to troubleshoot the problem. First go to start>control panel> printers and faxes, make sure the printer is ready and right click and make sure it is set to default. Secondly when you go to file print in internet explorer, make sure when the print windows opens up that next to name in the upper part of the box that it has the printer you are trying to print to.

Open Device Manager from Control Panel and check there are no yellow exclamation marks on any drivers. If there are then you need a new driver.


You need to goto the manufacturers website, find their support section and there should be a list of drivers for your specific machine. Installing these should resolve your problem. I have a list of links to most manufacturers drivers on my website.

If the notebook is under warranty IMMEADIATELY contact HP. Get a free hard drive from them.
If not then unfortunately you need to buy a new hard drive.
Note: Buy a HP Hard drive because other third party hard drive may not work.

You aren't using the correct install disk . The generic XP install disk can't recognize a SATA disk.You will have to load the appropriate driver during install. Here it is ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32492.exe

when booting go into safe mode and see it this works, if it does then there is a prob with you graphics card

That is certainly a likely possibility. It's very probable that a component inside the computer is heat sensitive, and failing upon heating up. you need to upgrade the memory of your laptop.

This is a warning beep that is telling you that there is a configuration issue or faulty hardware issue like RAM, CD drive ect.. If you enter into the setup screen when it first boots you can look and see if anything is missing or configured wrong.

Looks like a problem occured during backup. Best off to boot straight from windows cd perform a full format and reinstall. After installing windows you will need quite a few drivers. Hopefully a driver cd came with the laptop or you will have to use another pc to download all needed drivers from HP website and copy them to a cd. Hope this helps

easy... first, get the computer model, get the cd driver and reinstall the components or you can activate the enable cd writing on this drive while in the properties window also you could try updating the hardware but first scan for changes. enjoy...

Please check your Hard Disk Drive in the BIOS is still functioning. At the BIOS Booting Setup the should be ON to boot your Operating System.
Try and try again.

When you boot up press F8 function key and Windows will give a list of boot options, select Last Known Good Configuration and hopefully Windows will start up correctly. If not boot up again, press F8 and select Safe Mode and Windows should boot up in standard VGA display mode.
If this doesn't work you need the Compac restore CD disk that came with your laptop. Boot up with this CD to restore your laptop, you most likely will lose data.
