If you can see the bios screen at the boot . After that your screen is black.
The OS might be corrupted I suggest you to reinstall the OS by using the re-installation Disc.

If you are getting any beep sound then the error codes of one long beep & 2 short beep Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.


If you don't see the bios screen & beeps, there might be problem with the screen or the VGA chip in the motherboard.

If so I suggest you to contact the service center near by.

Are you using Windows Vista? You can fix this problem bt using your installation dvd. After the first couple of scrrens, you will get an option to REPAIR the installation. You should get a functioning system after that.

If you power it on and get the light it means either two things:

1. It needs a minimal charge on the battery to power. ( havent seen this since the old Compaq/Apple stuff ) or

2. The motherboard is fried. ( Just diagnosed a HPDV6000r special edition with this beautiful computer, dead motherboard ).

Random reboots are usually an overheating problem. First step is to look into the vents and see if they are clear of dust, fuzz, animal hair etc.
If they are clear you will need to access the fan/heatsink. The heatsink can accumulate dust depending on the design. If the fan sounds "abnormally loud" it could have bad bearings from dust and dirt and may need to be replaced.
Most laptops come with some way to monitor the temp, usually in the bios. Occasionally they come with a utility. You can use that to check the heat levels.

There is a problem with your driver. Try downloading it and reinstalling it. If that doesnt help then you most likely have a problem with your video processor.

Probably needs more RAM. How much is in it? The locking up could represent a bad memory sector in your current RAM (the computer locking up every time it hits that sector(s)) among other things. You can grab a linux live CD and do the memory test to be sure...it takes a long time tho.

You can speed up the startups by going to Start > Run > MSconfig and tweaking the tab that has the programs that start when windows starts and tweaking the services that start up...just be sure of what you are turning off

I don't think you will find an adapter than will fit into a laptop - they isn't any space.
You will need to buy a SATA.
You can by and enclosure for PATA hard drive and make an external drive to back up your stuff (if you can't return it).

Try and go to printer and fax setup the add printer maunally it will ask that do you have driver for your pinter then click yes.........

the bottom doesn't come off......you have to remove the cover on the screen hinge and remove the keyboard and monitor to isolate the "bottom" of the unit. After you have removed the panel on the hinge, you can unscrew the keyboard and detach the screen. At this point the bottom can be removed by taking off the main boards and other connected components.

most new computers have all you need /ok turn on goto windows goto shutdown /restart as the computer starts again from blank screen hold f12 down then follow on screen instructions / if not repeat and try f10 if not repeat then f11 ---ok

1. Boot off the Windows Vista DVD
2. Click Next at the first prompt select the language and click next.
3. Select the link in the lower left-hand side for "Repair your computer"
4. The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory.( If there's more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.)
5. Click the first link for "Startup Repair" (Or the last link "command prompt" if you want to use the alternative method as described below)
6. The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot.

Alternatively you can choose the Command Prompt option instead to fix the boot only:

1. Follow step 1-4 above
2. on step 5 choose The last link "Command prompt"
3. type bootrec /fixboot and hit enter.(space between bootrec and / )
4. The installation process will repair the boot sector.

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. If it doesn't play straight away, go into Settings - Audio and make sure the sound card or the On-Board Audio is enabled.
